3weeks post op

Hi everyone thought I was getting in really well pain a lot better stiffness better and am managing physio. But today I feel horrid not very with it aches all over have only had paracetamol so can't blame the not very with it feelings on drugs oh and also ankles are swollen feeling really yuk is this a normal happening do you know or should I be worried fed up and tired :-( xx

Keep your feet and your spirits up. At three weeks, I was still having horrid days. Not too many now, but it depends on what I've been doing. Moved some heavy boxes yesterday to get something and was useless for the rest of the day... Take a nap and see how you feel later.

Thank you xx

That is good advice! Rest up whenever you feel hurty, it means you are using muscles which is a good thing, but they also need rest to repair after excercising.

Mood swings are normal, your body is under stress after all. All sorts of hormones racing around with mixed messages - adrenalin included.

Not to mention lack of sleep and frustration.

Sleep whenever you can, let the body do its work.

It gets better real quick! I am 4 and a half weeks post op, feeling soo much better in my mind! Body as well for that matter!

You will be too, very soon 😊

Thank you Gertie :-) xx

I had plenty of days like this too - know just how you feel. It is about now other people get a bit bored by the whole thing I found, and were moving on - but we can't move on, only as fast as our hips allows us, and I felt/feel like it is never ending....but you are doing so well and are making real progress by the sounds of it....

Resting more will really help, I get scratchy when I have done too much, don't let the physio push you too much or too far. Trying to get you to walk at three weeks is quite a big ask - so you may need a few days to recover. It will get better honestly it will.

Thank you so much rose :-) xx

Your body knows best.

Rest, sleep, more rest.

Warm hugs

Thanks Shirley :-) xx

One thing I noticed early on, and my doc perscribed muscle relaxers to resolve, was some general pain in the back. not sure if this is what is going on with you, but I would call the doc. seems like week 2 or week 3 that started for me.

for the first month to 6 weeks pain meds and muscle relaxers were my friend. if you are like I was, you are likely spending a considerable amount of time in the same position, for me it was sitting in a recliner.

Yes terrible back ache thanks for advice :-) xx

If you don't want to take yet more pills, try an analgesic gel on your back {and other hurty bits). Worked for me.

Thank you xx

Hi Vanessa,

Checking in with you this morning and hope you had some hours of uninterrupted sleep -

When did you stop taking your pain medication?  Maybe you should still take them on a regular base, darling - You are getting more active and pain will hold you back a bit - It is such a vivcious circle isn't it ?   We feel better, stop taking the pain meds and whammo, it is baaacccckkkkk !  at least for me -

Take care -

big warm hug

Hi Vanessa,

Sounds like your body is letting you know it needs a rest. I am 4 weeks 4 days and my ankles ache & swell when I've overdone it. Put your feet up for until the aching has stopped and you feel more like yourself. I am increasing my pain meds until this phase passes. Did a mile and a quarter walk today, chopped veg for a spaghetti Bolognese and made that up, now all I feel fit for is the knackers yard.

It's frustrating when we want to do more than our bodies are ready for.

Hope you feel better soon

I saw a lovely chart somewhere with 4 points marked, from left to right; where you started, where your body actually is, where you think you are, fully recovered.

We are never as far along that road as we think we are.
