4 Weeks Post-Op Tomorrow And Walking Unaided

Hi All, first I hope all of you are doing well. Just making a small post because I am so thrilled about how my second hip is going. Even though I had a really rough start/surgery my hip is doing wonderful. I had been using a cane but recently started trying to walk unaided. Now I am at the point that I walk most of the day with no aid. When I do have the cane I forget about it and leave it behind! I notice that everyday my walk seems to be a little better and I feel stronger with less pain. When I first get up or start to move I have a little bit of a waddle but it goes away rather quickly. This is the best I have been able to walk in over 18 months. It feels like a miracle and has been a long time coming. Wishing you all the best. I haven't been on so much actually been feeling so well I haven't even been home and have been staying really busy. Missing you all and sending healing thoughts and warm hugs....Barb

Wow Barb!! That's great to hear!!! 🎊🎈🎉. HUGS, 🤗🤗 LD

Thrilled for you, Barbie! 18 months is a long time...👌🏻

Very encouraging to hear your doing so well.

Soon you will be dancing up a storm.

That's great news. Sooo happy for you!!!

Walking without a cane at 4 weeks. That's remarkable...!!!👍👍👍

Thanks Linda I sure couldn't be happier. It has been such a long time. I almost walk like a normal person...lol....

Thanks AnnieK....yep took so long because of being misdiagnosed. I was told it was my back and that my left hip was fine....Bah....caused me months of undue pain. Finally saw an Orthopedic specialist who looked at my ex-rays and told me right away, that the left hip was just as bad as the right. No wonder I couldn't walk or function....

Hahaha Laura I don't know about running a marathon but it's sure been a long time coming being able to walk and function like normal. I was in 3 lg. home improvement stores today walked through them all with no help from anything. A lot of walking and standing today, funny part was it wasn't intentional I kept forgetting my cane. I said well, I must not have needed it too bad if I can't remember it...Wishing you well and hope that knee is feeling better...Hugs...Barb

Thanks hope4cure....I would love to be dancing....lol....I am really happy how things are going. Seems like lately that everyday I am able to walk a little more and more without the cane and actually haven't even used it today..

Thanks susanbaci...yes, feels great to me. After my first hip replacement rthr on May 17th I was pretty disapointed that I was still having a lot of trouble walking because the left was so bad. I had been so looking forward to being able to walk unaided and at times it felt like I would never get here. So happy I am having a quick recovery and doing good after this one...

Hey Barb. Really happy for you I know you had a rough start. You're really moving along fast, I'm at 6 weeks RTHR and just getting away from the one crutch. Still using it for walking the dog, partly a security blanket I think, but isn't it wonderful to be pain free! Good Job! Keep doing the exercises and you'll continue improve. Dave

You have a great positive attitude. A good outcome will be a total recovery and off to do your favorite things.

Great news gives us all hope x

You and I share almost the same anniversary with first RTHR - mine being May 16 and I was surprised how quickly you got to the other side. And knowing how I need my left side too, and how that impedes my recovery, it's encouraging to know how quickly and well you're doing.

Hugs xxoo

Dear sweet barbie,

soooooooooooooooooo incredibly happy for you ...

wow ... what a great accomplishment --

big warm hug

renee

what were you doing in those home improvement stores ??? Thinking of remodelling ?

Thanks Dave, yes it is wonderful to finally be getting back to normal. Wishing you well and hope you heal quickly.....Barb

Thank you susanbaci, yes after my rthr in May when I finally started healing I was so dissapointed that I still couldn't walk or function well, not to mention the 25/7 pain. Even trying to sleep was a problem no way I could lay that didn't hurt. So for that reason I decided to go ahead with the lthr...I don't regret it at all. Even though I had some bad complications with my surgery originally (nothing to do with the hip part), my hip has been wonderful. Less pain than the rthr, quick healing and of course obtaining my main goal to be able to walk and function normally is almost here. I see the light at the end of the tunnel and am so happy to finally be able to walk. Hugs back to you.....Barb

Thanks renee, yes their is hope. I was such a mess. I was so bad before my rthr in May that I couldn't even stand for a second without leaning on something, anything to hold me up. If I tried to even hobble a few steps the pain in the hips and my back was so bad I just couldn't do it. I was that way for such a long time because of a mis-diagnosis from one Ortho office. Once I got my rthr I had some improvement but wasn't able to walk or function normal still. The left was so terribly bad also that I knew I would never be "right" until it was also done. Now I am so happy getting close to normal. I kind of waddle for a few steps when I first get up and have to concentrate on walking correctly, but doing great...My advice to everyone is don't give up their is a light at the end of the tunnel...Hugs...Barb

Brilliant news - you go girl (but not too fast) 😃
