I'm 4weeks post op today, this is my journey so far. 8 working days
off work (I was bored stupid and if I don't work we don't send any
invoices out) 17 days post op, husband and kids go to Cornwall for
the week leaving me and my fur baby home alone. Today he
informed me I'm relying too much on my crutches and should really
only be using one. It must be awesome to know everything!

Hi Kim I am 4 weeks in from my op. go at your own pace you will know when your ready to move on. The Bordom is the pits I don't think I have sat on my butt all be it a sore butt as long in my life. I try going for short walks twice a day plus the excersise if I over do it the leg jumps for Britain at night and then I'm back to 2 crutches day after up a day down a day. Stay Posative hugs Jeanx
HI I am 5 weeks today and all people recover at different rates .. I am 5 weeks today L THR and can walk with no aids and have been deemed fit to drive ☺ as required no pain killers for past 3 weeks amd.able.to emergency stop being left side. Every few days my hip feels more mobile and less stiff so don't worry I am.sure by week 5 you will also feel much better with your mobility ..mine gets better as day goes on ...
. Exercises make a big difference and the physio advice was great as allowed me.to know what I could and should do at what stage and also what to avoid and still avoid . Hope you feel better next week .. for me week 5 has shown the greatest improvement .
Hi Kim - isn't get to get such loving advice, esp after going to work and fending on your own for a week!
It reminds me of the time my husband picked up my pain meds from the pharmacy and came back with the news that the pharmacist couldn't understand why I needed them at 2 weeks. He had both done and never needed any...
Grrŕhh.
Oh well you are at the point where I experienced real qualitative changes in progress. I hope this is the case for you.
But honestly if you are working g you must be doing pretty well. Have you tried walking sticks (they really do work well and come with latches to keep them together and upright when at a desk. They give lots of support but I found they helped smooth out my gait better.
Either way - I think you are doing amazingly.
Big hugs,
L
Hi Kim89222
it is major surgery you've just had and recovery is personal to you. My husband was a bit the same, they don't know how to help and they just want things back to normal. I would and still do relax on my bed and when he comes up I have a leg in the air and tell him I'm doing my exercises. I believe the road to recovery is in the exercises to quote one American YouTube video "it's the quality of the hold not the quantity" yo have to say it with an American ascent.
To help my husband understand I got him to read the first article on this forum.
you will get there,
Jackie
Men, I am 4 weeks post op from Bilateral THR and my husband said why are you still using your crutches, should you not be walking just with a stick by now....
They have no idea...
Elain I would have been tempted to give him a whack with the stick lol
I will be four weeks post op on Saturday. I can walk completely unaided, but with a slight drop on my left operated leg. It's not really a limp, but not a fully balanced walk
My consultant and physio both want me to continue using both crutches for another couple of weeks, so that I regain the muscle strength to make my walk correct.
It is frustrating to have to use crutches still, but it is for long term benefit and is only really for a short period of time. Everyone is very different in the speed they heal and all the Doctors seem to have different opinions on stopping use of supports.
I only took three weeks off work, sitting around all is OK at first, but I felt I wasn't really achieving anything. Event though I was managing to go for a good walk each day and do my physio.
Hi Elaine
Don't you just love em? How are you doing hun? (Auto correct put gun 😂 tempting isn't it) I can't imagine how you are managing. I'm really frustrated and it must be double for you,
How's the pain? and how in earth do you excersise with two lead legs?? Having one is bad enough
Huge healing hugs
Kim
Hi Kim
I am doing okay, manage to do my exercises and walk daily. I tried to walk with one crutch but got stuck... could not move at all..
Pain I keep taking the meds, but only first thing in morning, lunch time just paracetamol and then full wack an hour before bed. I find sleeping not a problem doing it this way.
I take plenty of rest during the day and have found knitting once again... a good therapy.
We have to laugh at our men, could you imagine them going through this... <3
Elaine
Hi Linda
Yes You've got to love em, I've found that this week is bringing great changes in my recovery. I'm off meds totaly, I have two sticks from prior to my surgery so i might give them a go, I keep trying to go unaided but it still feels strange. i just want my life back. I need to
be able to get in my car and go. I'm sick of having to ask for every
little thing.
Big hugs to you too xx
Kim
Well done you, I wish I could walk unaided. I haven't had any Physio at all since I got out of the hospital just me excersise booklet. it just hacks me off that some random bloke (my husband) who has no idea what we are going through (said...the women down the road had her hip done and could walk unaided virtualy straight away) thinks he knows whats best and how far my recovery should have come.
OK Rant over
Take care
Kim
