Hello all, I'm new to this site and very new to HRT. I gave in and went to my GP today, thinking I was going to leave with a prescription for antidepressants not one for Elleste Duet 1mg. I haven't had a period for nearly 2 years and knew I was in the menopause stage but thought I could cope without medication. That came to an end today, I can't do this without help. With symptoms to name but a few..hot flushes every hour, waking in the night, no energy, no enthusiasm, lack of libido, short temper, irrational feelings, worrying about everything, not coping at work or at home, frowning and scowling more than laughing and smiling. My poor husband and children :-( After waking in the night and sobbing for hours last night, I felt I could not get up, I felt like 'the big black dog' (google it if that doesn't make sense) was beating down my door. My husband and I went to the GP together armed with a list of my symptoms. So, I have taken my first tablet..I am hoping for a miracle but at the same time worried that they won't be the tablets for me (I never take tablets for anything). Any support, advice truly welcomed. Sending lots of love to anyone going through the same..it is utterly debilitating. Xx
Kerri you have reminded me of myself in 1991. I was like you thinking I would be given antidepressants but with a week of taking HRT I was a different woman. So good luck I'm sure it will help immensely.
I'm 40 and started on hrt this year. Like you u don't like tablets and read all about hrt before going on it and settled with a gel that is absorbed through the skin. I've been fine so far although I can get one very small flush just after putting it on but that maybe because my body not used to dose yet. My Dr said it was going to be trial and error to start with and started me low to build up but to be fair the low dose isn't half bad. I wish you all the best but I'm sure you'll be a lot better soon once it works it way into your system. In some ways it's good as it's a constant dose rather than the ups and downs of a natural cycle 😊
That is so reassuring to hear. Thank you for taking the time to reply.
I am surprised to read that so many women late 30's and early 40's go through this. I have never heard of a gel. Maybe something for me to consider if the tablets aren't fully effective for me. Thank you for taking the time to reply, I appreciate it.
I had to have my ovaries removed so forced onto me but there are more women out there that were going through menopause early than I ever thought. Hope it all works out
Hi, I was put on the same tablets for me they were amazing at first but then gave me bad heads so the route wasnt right for me. Went back to doctors who then give me patches in hrt for me now no problems hope they are right or you but if not go back lots of different Hrt s out there. good luck x
Thank you, I will definitely return to my GP if I don't get on with them. Didn't know you could get patches. I really do need to increase my knowledge. I am feeling hopeful that I am on the first few steps of the right track now, after feeling totally out of sorts for the last couple of years. Thank you for your message, I appreciate your time.
I tried patches at one point and they kept coming off but that was over 20 years ago so they've probably improved since then. I was much better taking tablets but everyone is different of course.
Knowing my luck the patches would come off in bed and stick to my husband!
Haha haha! Taking being in touch with his feminine side a bit too far 😉
It has been known to happen.......seriously

Haha x
Hopefully you are at the beginning of the right track too. I wish you well. It is so very upsetting to not feel right. Good Luck and keep us posted, I'm so interested in reading the posts. x
I have been on a tablet, low dose for the last 21 years. I am 64 now, but I had a hysterectomy at the age of 42 which brought menapose on early. Taking HRT tablet was the best thing I have done. It is trial and error, but hopefully you will get on to the one that will work for you. No reason to suffer. It does make you put on weight, but I would rather have a bit of extra weight then the alternative. Good luck. It took me 2 weeks of taking HRT before I noticed a difference.
Hi Kerri
Yes,know exactly how you feel as I went through something similar about 12 years ago. Not quite as bad as you but with all the night sweats, bad tempper, no enthusiasm, worrying etc etc. My problem was that I was also suffering with hypothyroidism which meant I was on tablets every day and when given the HRT tablets they did not work properly and interfered with the thyroxin causing even more problems. However my wonderful GP gave me some patches and normal service was resumed until some stupid specialist decided somewhere that HRT was dangerous and we should all stop over a certain age. I was taken off it and all symptoms resumed three years ago! Am now going to resort to a specialist. Best of luck and am sure you will feel great shortly.
