4th day on mirt.

Is it normal to be drowsy eyed after 4 days on mirt?.. Also took my tab at 8 last night but didn't sleep for ages then it was off and on. Will drowsiness get worse.? Don't see doc until nxt week when mirt to go up to 30 mg.!!..

The drowsiness carried on for about a week for me and then I felt better but I couldn't take the weight gain so after a relatively short period, under the doctor's guidance, I am going back to fluoxetine smile

You should not feel too drowsy hun, see if the drowsiness goes in a few days then speak to your Doctor,

I am still drowsy now after being on it for 5 months. It does improve over time but my worst of the drowsiness took about 6weeks to wear off. Everyone different , you just need to ask you self if the pros outweigh the cons with mirt.

I didn't notice drowsiness when started mirtazapine because felt so dreadful anyway. Perhaps I welcomed the (relative) rest! I notice now I'm reducing it that I sleep less well, so it must have been having a sedative effect slightly all the time, but it's not been a problem.

I was terribly drowsy for at least five days, though each day got slightly better. However, I was still too drowsy to drive for the first half of the day even after two weeks. But after a couple of months I felt totally back to normal. I take my pill around 9pm and expect to be asleep by 11:30.

What is the dose?  If it's 45 mg, then take a 15 mg tablet around 8.30 and the 30 mg before you go to bed.  If you're on 15 or 30, take it later in the evening.

best wishes

Hiya Cathy, well I am just over 2 weeks in at 15mg and I am finding it very hard in other respects but not due to drowsiness. Hang in there for now, if thats all you are experiencing so far count yourself lucky.

thanks for all your replies. Forgot to say am still on 37.5 mg venlafaxine as well but am supposedly to stop taking it this weekend. So will be on mirt itself after that. When been on venlafaxine at start 4 years ago nevr drowsy. As long as drowsiness not any worse can't fall asleep on clients. Defo helped with anxious tum.

hi cathy  have been on 15mg mitazapine before and the side effect i did like was increased appetite which made put on weight which i needed as was only 7stone, but dident like feeling groggy all day, the doc has  now put me on 30mg and dont feel tired at all which makes no sense to me, he says 15mg is more sadative than 30mg although it dosent make me tired like 15mg but it makes me  feel very numb emotionless but dont want to go back to the 15mg because of the tiredness, hope you get on ok

Hi

,Mirtazepine is a sedative antidepressant and so although it will, hopefully, help you to sleep, it will put on weight  - in my case, two and a half stone in 4 months.  The only advantage is that with most people, it helps you too sleep.

Hi thanks for reply. Well was at doc. And I am gona try alternate days 1 on 15 then 1 on 30!..only had first 30 mg sat night, ystrday wasn't doing much bar cooking etc. took 15 mg last night today head feels sleepy although I slept last night. So confusing should I keep taking 30mg all time to see if it kicks in to help,so not wanting any more drowsiness

Just to say, weight gain not inevitable. I've been on it for 6 years and not put on any weight.

So nessie91 do you feel it's helped you as an anti depressant!.. My weight at moment seems stable.. My mood is so flat.. X

As I've just replied previously to Nessie. My weight is stable only into 3rd week..did your drowsiness go when you were on 30 mg daily pixie? x

Hi Cathy! Well i've been taking 30mg for all that time, without noticing any drowsiness during the day. Now I,'m very gradually reducing it (one day a week for a start) I am finding I sleep for a shorter time the night after I take the lower dose so it must have been having a slight sedative effect, but not troublesome.

Hi Cathy

i found it helped me to sleep, but did nothing for my mood during the day.  They tried me on a low dose of Sertraline as we'll for 6 weeks, which didn't work out as I became highly agitated - it's the same family as fluoxetine and is supposed to "pep" you up.  I've now been taken off it altogether - the doctor thinks the psychiatrist was a Bt ambitious taking me from 45 mg to zero in a week.  It's certainly affected my sleep pattern and I'm now on another antidepressant.  Sometimes, I thnk I would be better not to take anything because this is the 4t attempt to find something and so far nothing's worked and I've got a few side effects - anxiety, palpitations, a rash all over my back and forehead, etc

Hi  i have just been put on mirtazapine 3 days ago 15mg. i have been on seroxat for 5 years however it was starting to fail me im finding this new drug hard at moment as tired not sleeping well at all   feeling dizzy, dry mouth, today is worse is this normal .

It is early days yet, I expect you found with the seroxat that it took a few weeks to have a full effect when you started. A dry mouth is a common side effect of antidepressants.
