5 days post op

Hi all!

I am 5 days post op for pelvic floor prolaspe. Stage 5 cystocele & rectocele and also have a rectal prolaspe, which could not be fixed at same time. Hoping this repair has helped the rectal prolaspe and do not have to have another surgery. This will be determined in 3 months.

I have had 12 pelvic surgeries and this one is by far the toughest. No one could have prepared for the post op pain. I was in pain and tremendous discomfort for a year prior to surgery and thought this would be a cake walk. NOT!!!! However, I know I will be much better when all this heals. Some things I have found to be very helpful has been:

Drink a lot to insure continous peeing.

Take a stool softener morning and night. Eat fruit and fiber. Don't become constipated! If 3 days w/o BM, call your doctor. I went 4 days, even with taking Pbillips Laxative for 2 days. She told me to use a Ducolax Suppository and if that didn't help, then a bottle of Magnesium Citrate. The suppository helped get it started. It did not hurt, just uncomfortable because of swelling in rectum. A lot of burning though. I was terrified to have a BM, which made it impossible to relax. You will have a lot of soreness in that whole area, even in your tailbone, but a BM is probably not going to hurt any more than what you already feel.

Heating Pad! When sitting, I used it. But do not sit for longer than a few minutes. Never, longer than 10 minutes! While laying, on side of course, I used heating pad like a diaper. It really helps.

Walk! It helped me feel much better. Helps to get bowels moving, helps decrease soreness and helps to prevent blood clots.

Listen to your doctor! Relax, no stress, do nothing and that really means, do nothing! Your house and family members will survive.

Hope this helps anyone facing this surgery.

Sounds like you have a good GP who is looking after you.

Watch you don't do too much walking give yourself time to heal.

12 pelvic surgeries is an awful lot you must be so fed up and have lots of scar tissue.

Hope all goes well ,

Take care

Hi again Cath. I just replied to your previous post before I saw this one. You seem to be doing all the right things. I agree with Phyl though, not too much walking yet, too soon! I still can't walk far at almost 8 weeks, I feel in pain and exhausted when I do too much of anything on my feet and uncomfortable if I sit too long also. (Tail end pain where OA is). So keep moving gently but easy does it for now. My arthritis in spine and other joints limit my activities anyway but I agree with the things you say. After all those pelvic floor surgeries you need to take care of yourself and go very slowly if this is to succeed. X Poll rolleyes
