Hi all, sorry I haven't been on in a few days. I've been busy doing my exercises, relearning to walk etc. I was discharged from hospital yesterday evening after having my dressing changed & going up & down 2 flights of stairs (as I live in a 2 storey house). I get now why everyone calls them physio terrorists, but if they didn't do their job Id still be in hospital. I find some of the physio exercises on the bed quite painful but the physio gave me a slider sheet t make them a little easier. I cannot believe how quickly I have gotten over the op & am walking quite well with 2 crutches. I even had a little wander around my garden this morning in the beautiful autumn sunshine navigating the 3 steps outdoors. As far as pain goes it's no worse than I would have expected after such a big op. I have approx 12" scar 28 staples (nurse counted them). Starting to get a nice black bruise on my behind & swelling to my thigh & knee. Ankles are fine so far probably due to my sexy stockingsπ. In hospital I was brought a pillowcase of bagged ice chippings 3 times a day. At home I'm using frozen peas in a pillow case. Doing the same job only they don't stay frozen as long. I'm off all painkillers,I was taking pre,op & am only on minimal amount of pain relief along with aspirin for a month to,prevent clotting. Anti inflammatory twice a day & paracetemol 4 times a day. I was given a stronger fast acting pain med to take if pain goes abot 5/6 but haven't needed it yet thank God. I have always had a very high pain threshold so maybe that helps. We had to travel an hour & half from hospital & then pick up a prescription in pharmacy on the way home & I was delighted to be able to be a passenger without that old bone on bone pain. (The head of my femur was completely dissintigrated). Overall I'm so far extremely pleased with the outcome. I just hope it keeps improving day by day. To any pre op patients on here who are scared, try not to worry. I had a major panic attack the day before & morning of my surgery & the nursing staff, Dr & anaesthetist couldn't have been more supportive before during & after the op. I don't even remember being wheeled into Theathre & woke up to my surgeons big blue eyes & Hollywood smile & a bevy of beautiful nurses all looking out for me. Id just say go for it. You will never look back. I'm actually looking forward to having my LTHR done asap. I'll know more after my post,op apt 10 November. Enjoy the beautiful sunshine fellow hippies π
Thank you for your words about pre op panic.
I am on stage on Monday for my performance..
Well it is a theatre .. But I'd
rather be in the audience. Good luck for
the coming days.
dearest Gossip ...
what a great post !!!!!! see, no matter what others tell you, even here on the forum, you have to go through it alone and then you know ....
it is scary because it IS major surgery ... and you will have good days and not so good and right out bad, miserable days ....
you know you can always come here and share ....
I am so happy for you !
Big warm hug

Hi I,m 11 days post right hip I enjoyed reading your post it was very positive glad all seems to be going in the right direction. I was feeling a bit sorry for myself this morning mainly due to lack of sleep suddenly "Mr blue sky " came on the radio (E.L.O) & it instantly snapped me out of my low mood &cheered me up as this its the music me & my twin grandchildren often dance around too, they will be over later to visit ,we won,t be dancing to it quite yet but it's nice to know that the power of music can have a positive effect on us all happy listening everyone . Suzy
Gossip great to hear you are on the other side, got mine in november and panicing have part one of pre assessment next week, i can honestly say i have never been so scared in my life but with the help of all of you i know how i feel is right and when i have it done i know what to expect.xx
Best of luck Cathie. You will perform brilliantly on the day. There could've been nobody more terrified than I was the day before op when I was admitted. I shook all over & was frozen (literally) with fear. I often suffer with anxiety attacks though. The staff handled me fantastically & reassured me. The morning of the op I was no better. But pre med early & I calmed down. Dr arranged that I was done early. Back in my room before 1pm. U won't look back. That bone on bone pain is a distant memory now. X
my daughter made me a cd of songs I love to listen to during op but thanks to the wonderful anaesthetist I never heard one of them πππ one of them was 'The Proclaimers' Walk 500 miles πΆπΆπΆπΆπΆπΆ Its great to know that soon we could be just walking pain free after years of pain. Keep, that music turned up Suzybobs
Renee you were one of the first I came across on this forum & always found your, posts positive & uplifting. Thank you so much for that. I hope you're still doing great x
Glad to hear you are doing so well. Be prepared for good days and bad. Although even the bad days are tolerable. The key is to take your medicines, do your exercises and move frequently. Get plenty of rest and consult this forum when you need support.
Best wishes
Well done Gossip. Insead of the frozen peas my partner bought ice gel packs off line that go in the freezer. He bought them off ebay. Next to the grabber they are the next best helpful item and I still use them if I have done a bit too much. So glad you are on the other side with us now. Love Gillxxx
hi gossip
I was like you had never been to hospital in my life dreaded the thought of an operation. I have never had children and at 62 years old just couldnt get my head round going into hospital. However after my first operation left hip and now
16 weeks post operative I cannot wait for my right hip to be done on 5th october next week.
I am like you looking forward to it!
Glad everything went well for you and you are through the other side.
Yes the physio i tough and I call mine Miss Whiplash but try to do as much as possible as they are right it does help but it is hard when you have restricted your movements for years because of historic pain. all the best.

Hi cathie,
My LTHR debuts at 8am Monday, have to be there at 6:30 so not much hanging about. It is really reassuring to read Gossip's post done so soon after surgery. Gettng anxious, enough to email my surgeon today. He reassured me I would be adequately sedated to be blissfully unaware.
Trying to keep busy getting things ready and planning a shower room, you know, to keep my mind off it. Just picked up a grabber so am practising with that. Not yet nanaged to plug in my tablet charger with it :D
Best of luck op buddy and thankyou Gossip for the positive report.

Sending my thoughts to you Kristin for Monday. U will be fine I promise you. Be strong x

Did you mean you actually saw your old hip
bone? What an experience! Did you ask to see it?
tell me more, please.

Yes I asked to see it I wanted to have it they told me they are not allowed to give the bone to me they showed it where it had gone bad day 5 been having pain just the normal post operation pain feeling good today hope it all goes well for you
Take care
Sorry about your pain, hope it's just the normal.
i can't take pain killers so I expect it, but I coped
ok last time, with something to help me sleep at
night. Pain is worse if you are tired. A good tip is
2 hours on the bed in the afternoon in the early days.
was your hip osteoarthritis? Was your hip craggy like stone?
that is how I imagine it, mine is bone on bone.
hi
I donated my femur for research. Its a project spire hospital at leicester promote. will do the same with the second one on monday.
