i had a HUGE fibroid (5kg), and its size caused multiple hernias in my abdominal wall. i went under surgery 5 weaks ago and got my fibroid removed and my hernias repaired with a net.
the incision i hade was extremely large, it is a vertical incision through my whole abdomen, and now i have got almost 60% of the wound perfectly healed and the other 40% got infected and still no closed.
my doctor told me that i have to take a heavy course of antibiotics and then go throgh another surgery to debride the wound and try closing it again.
anyone here has got through something like this or is it just me? i am really scared and depressed, i thought i would be fine by now but i am not, due to the unclosed wound i am stiil bedridden till now
You poor thing, hang on in there. I really feel for you. I had a veritival insicsion when I had my fibroid op - from belly button down. My incision didn't heal for ages either. My surgeon used staples and half of the incision didn't heal properly for the best part of a month. I had to go to my GPs regularly to get the dressings changed. It made what should have been a straight forward recovery very frustrating.
Have you been given a date for the debridement op?
I'm sorry to hear that, horrible to have to think of going through another op so soon. At least the fibroid's gone, but having an open wound for this long is very distressing. I hope it gets sorted out soon and you can begin to recover properly. I have avoided surgery on my fibroids so far, as I know I would have to have a vertical incision also, and I dread the recovery process.
Sounds like you are having a very hard time. I have a large fibroid, but besides causing my stomach to look pregnant, it is not causing too many symptoms. It does sound like your surgery was complicated with both large incision and repairs with a net. Hang in there through this next phase. One day soon the other 40% will be healed and you will be feelng so much better than before surgery. Best wishes, Jamie
