5 week long cold?

I came down with a cold on Jan 20th and I can't seem to shake it. On the 21st it was so bad I couldn't walk, and although I've not felt quite that bad since, I just can't seem to shake it. My mum's suggested that I should get some fresh air and my doctor has basically said I've got to tough it out. I've had an ear infection too and I am kinda sick of coughing, sneezing and sniffing all the time. 5 weeks seems too long for a cold to me and tbh I feel like I'm being seen as a hypochondriac by doctors. Any suggestions are welcome, apart from cough medicine or throat sweets as they've done nothing so far.

Ask for a glandular fever test just to be sure x

l suddenly started with cold just after Christmas, although typeical symptoms only lasted a few days l,m also left with the bronichal cough and runny nose, but do get allergic rhinitus. Its irritating in bed at night, coughing and disturbed sleep. l recall gp saying something like after a cold, virus affects, it can leave airways sticky and takes time.If weve already immune probs it adds to it.  lve also tried cough med lozengers nasal spray vick, no luck yet. So cant offer suggestions, although some believe in echincea, maybe more advice to come.

I came down with a cold in September and it's still not cleared up. Annoying, but I don't think that there's much doctors can do about it.
