5 weeks PO pkr severe pain

Is it normal to have severe flare up of pain ?

Was doing so good had to go to a convention and with travel and the first days / nights activities I am in severe pain .

I just want cry .

Yes. It is common. You should ice and elevate whenever you can.

Changes in climate weather, activity etc. I imagi e you were lifting luggage, standing in one place, sitting with your legs down and cramped .......all different from your normal rehab at home. Get off you feet, elevate and ice. You my have to excuse yourself from some of the most strenuous activities and tAke care of yourself. Right now getting out ofpain is the most important thing. Hope you brought your pain meds. If not, find a sympathetic dr locally and get more. Talk to your hotel concierge and explain your problem. Get on the ice now

It's normal if you over do, and that's what you've done. We all do at some time and we learn the hard way. You'll be a few days getting over it. Sorry to say. It's to early yet. Hope you're feeling a bit better by now, since that was 7 hrs ago when you posted.

5 weeks is not a long time to have attempted a convention and activities. You may have pushed your knee too much. If there is swelling you probably need to rest, elevate and ice. I know it is difficult to get back to a regular life but healing takes time. You need to listen to your body.

Hi, agree with all said. Don't play down "just a PKR". Mine (18 mos. out) has given, and still does, more aggravation than my 4 and a half month total. The surgery itself if almost as big as a TKR and may even be more difficult due to having to match inside with outside. My Initial PT went great but now seems to be backsliding even as I keep up as supposed to. Watch out for overdoing on good days and Good luck!

Yes, it's not unusual. I know, not what any of us wants to hear. Flare ups can happen for up to a year or longer (I'm about 20 months po). In fact at about 6 weeks I had some serious redening and realized there was something coming to a head. Because I was traveling (and had been walking up and down stairs more than usual as well as walking outside) I was really concerned. When I returned to my city I visited my surgeon. By then it burst open with a white substance that came out and a spot of something black. He was confident that it was just a piece of a stitch that didn't disolve properly working it's way out. But then it happened again and I wasn't so sure. I contacted my sister, who is a nurse. She told me that because of the other one that had happened that created a path of less resistance and this was just where another undisolved stitch was working it's way out. To this day, this knee is a bit of a problem (I had both knees replaced on the same day). Apparently the knee cap isn't in the best shape and probably should have been replaced at the same time.

My recomendation for you is to continue icing it whenever you are walking more than normal or feel any tightness or pain coming. Also, keep elevating. 5 weeks is still early. Hang in there, Debbie.

Five weeks po is WAY to early to go trapsing around a convention. What with lifting luggage, in and out of cars, walking, etc. your knee is telling you you overdid it!!!

The best thing for you to do is every chance you get, sit with your leg elevated, and ice it, 20 minutes at a time, minimum!! Your  top  priority is taking  care of your knee.

Thanks Jeanne

Yes I see that now . Finally home and spent all day today on couch , resting , iceing elevating . Have to get ready for the work week ahead .

I realize now this is a long and winding road . Hoping the pain from over doing it will be gone by morning .

Debbie

Good luck Debbie. I pray the pain will be gone.

Just want to say thank you for the advice . I took all of the advice I got from you and others . I sat out almost one day and iced and elevated . Plus there was the trip home I needed to get through . Cabin pressure gave me swelling but finally got home . Today just iced and elevated . Hoping to at least be back to where I was before I left . This isn't fun .

Thanks again for your help .

Debbie

Thank you for the prayer Jeanne . Means a lot

Hey Debbie, I will be going to a conference soon. It will be 7 1/2 weeks after TKR on left knee and 13 1/2 weeks after tkr on right knee. Hopefully some of my awelling will have gone down by then. Have a good work week!

Are you in the USA or UK?

Thank you !! I made it home finally . Been resting, iceing , elevating to get ready for the work week , ugh !

This is long road for sure .

Debbie

Usa

Wow well good luck . It wasn't easy as I thought it would be . From what others have said on TKR that is very soon to be doing all that . I had a partial and it was way more challenging than I expected with the travel . I was at 5 weeks you will be further out but still . I asked the hotel to put me close to the elevator . I got I ce from the ice machine and iced as much as I could , even if just 10 minutes . Take it slow and if you start swelling and pain increase I would take breaks a lot and rest and ice and elevate . Conventions are always a lot of walking .

Be safe and wise !

Debbie
