5 weeks post op

Hi all,

Well today I am walking unaided in and around the house.  Went to local shopping center today but decided to use one crutch, basically so people kept their distance lol.  Walked full length of center and in, around and out of shops.  Came home and had a little sit in drivers seat to practice pressing the accelerator and brake (I've had Right THR) as its not an automatic car.  I found this surprisingly OK, so hoping when I see the consultant a week tomorrow he will lift restrictions and let me drive.  After that I cooked tea and am now sat in my electric recliner with legs elevated.

Doesn't seem like a lot, but to me its an achievement.

To anyone who isn't at the 5 weeks stage yet, I can assure you it gets better and easier.

Will let you all know what my Consultant says next week.

Regards to all and hope all those in the UK have a good bank holiday weekend (let's hope the sun shines).

Well done Nadine, another step in the right direction. Six weeks is what most ins companies insist on and my consultant said, "make sure you can do an emergency stop", so all good. Drive short distances and build it up. Hugs and best wishes, Dot x

Thank you Nadine for taking te tito tell us your achievements...You are doing very well after only five weeks!

Best wishes

Well done to you Nadine hope you are now resting. I did not shed the crutches/sticks outside till week 7. On week 9 now and still uneasy in busy town. Going upstairs is still difficult and driving for more than 30 minutes begins to hurt. Surgeon said not to try a bath till after week 12. Prefer a shower anyway

Hope you do not ache tomorrow

Keep up the good work

Thank you Ann and yes I am resting now xxx

Thank you Dot, will certainly wait until I see my consultant before I actually drive, but it did feel good to sit in the drivers seat and press the pedals lol xxx

Thank you brisk walk, all the best to you xxx

Great to hear how well you are doing Nadine (I have a niece called Nadine biggrin  I am two weeks post op today and have had the staples removed this morning.  Managing one crutch around the house but two outside.  Your post is very encouraging.  Thanks. Hope you continue to improve with each day.

Hi nadine

Well done on getting as far as you have. I too am at 5 weeks and really struggling.

But I am so happy you are making great progress.

Just becareful even if your consultant lifts your restrictions on driving you may still be on medication that may restrict you also. So just becareful of that and make sure it is totally out of your system before doing any driving. smile

I too am on day 10 I managed to walk round a discount store called lathams I am now tired just watching ghost adventures on really on sky and I am going to record a program called my ghost story as I think I will be in bed by 10pm

I will take some cocodamol when I go to bed

Well done! I don't think I'll be at that level by week 5 - am at week 4 and sill need 1 crutch round the house. My longest walk is about half a mile. But I am improving allbeit slowly.

I think you've done really well!

Hi Hailea,

Sorry to hear you are struggling.

As I have a tummy problem I can't take strong painkillers, so was only taking paracetamol for a couple of weeks and only had the odd one since, so no problems there.

Hope you improve soon.

Take care

Hi Jill, thanks for your good wishes.  Ahhh another Nadine, there are more of us nowadays as the name is a bit more popular.  Thats is brilliant that you are on one crutch around the house, I didnt manage that until 3 weeks.

Hope your good progress continues

Hi Anne, sounds like you are doing fine to me.  Once I got to this week I seemed to improve much more, so who knows what you may be doing by next week.

Thanks you anyway, my partner keeps saying he is really proud of me (she says blushing slightly) lol xxx

Thanks nadine.

I am only struggling because I need my right side doing as well  and both my knee and my hip have become extreemly bad since having to compensate for the left side being done. I have to wait till september till my consultant will do my right side. I am hoping he will get me into hydrotherapy before much longer. I won't see him again now till June the 8th which is 8 weeks post op so will have to see when he says then.

So he should be- I think mine will be glad when he has to do less cooking and feet washing!

You did well with pain killers too - I'm still taking paracetamol and separate codeine 3 times a day. Still that's one dose less than last week!

Good morning Nadine .... what???? it IS a LOT you achieved - we know that - in the eyes of others, non-hippies, it might not seem a lot, but what do they know ???

these are victories to be shared here ....

Word of caution from my own experience:  it is very easy to do too much on a day you feel good - Yesterday I felt great, so I took a longer walk, drove 45 minutes  to an outlet store, walked around (by that time I was in pain) -

I was happy to be home again and felt exhausted ... needless to say that today I can feel the hardware and my back is in spasms .... just saying !!!

take care !    big hug

Hi Anne, two weeks post op and I am now back doing the cooking.  My other half has trouble doing beans on toast!  Only had help with drying my feet for two days after leaving hospital as I now manage to shuffle around on a towel after showering.  He still has to put the stockings on me and does take the dogs for a walk twice a day so I am trying not to complain! cry having read others experiences I feel I am very lucky in how I am doing and not even taking pain killers anymore.

THAT SOUNDS BRILLIANT..... GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR CONSULTANT NEXT WEEK.

HAPPY RECOVERY X X
