50 Gallstones

Hi,

I have an 82 year old relative who has just been diagnosed with gallstones. Approx 50 stones were visible on an ultrasound scan and it was also commented that the bile was thick and concentrated as a result.

Is this a normal amount at this age? Has anybody else experienced similar, and what was done?

Patient has been referred by GP to a gastric surgeon for further advice. Only very occasional symptoms of lower back pain and vomiting but we are concerned by the amount of stones and the potential for worse symptoms in future.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Your relative could last years without major problems or on the other hand they could last weeks or months, they're unpredictable little blighter's, it's probably best just to be rid of the Gallbladder and save on uncertainty...

Best wishes smile

That's not a very helpful or sensitive reply to say that a relative may last a few weeks. I would like a retraction and an apology.

What I've said is true, your relative could muddle on for years with this Gallbladder sniffle or on the other hand it could escalate and put them in hospital next week smile
