Hello Kellie, So much depends on the size and growth rate, which will probably need to be monitored by regular ultrasound scans. In the UK protocols are that the main intervention, repair by EVAR (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endovascular_aneurysm_repair) when the aneurysm reaches a stated size. In my case I found out 20 years ago after an MRI for another problem also needing surgery. To cut a long story short my aneurysm is now 6.5cm, at which size I can no longer legally drive. The Vascular Surgeon told me in 2015 to prepare for "death with dignity" (rather than on the operation table!) as I did not fit the risk profile.
The fact of writing this reply shows that there is still much to be learned. I still enjoy life and am symptom free. All the best to you.
Why has it not been operated on before? There is no dignity in going that way.
Prior to operation I was told a 5/6% chance of such an outcome. On the day, in the pre-op room the Surgeon said it was really about 50% and was not prepared to undertake at such a risk level. I think that me having a CRT-D implant and a 10% LVEF did dot help!
