My hospital preferred 2 crutches to a walker . So I came home with crutches . Used two for about 5 weeks . Use one if I go out but none at home . I am 7 weeks post op.
Pits very early days for you yet so don't rush .
As I have already said on forum don't think I am no better today than I was yesterday but next week think how much better you are than you were last week x
I was given two crutches at the hospital. I used both of them when I went out at first and one around the house. Then after 4 weeks I just used one all the time. At 6 weeks I could walk without one at all, however if you still limp then it is best to carry on using one crutch for just a little while longer. Don't rush it, take your time, you will get there, however long it takes.
Hi
I used a walker for just a day after my op and started using the crutches on day 2 , and carried using both crutches till wk 3 both indoors and outdoors . Wk 4 I used 1 crutch when I am indoor but used both when I went out.
Do not rush take it one day at a time as we all differ. Do the exercise that you are given and you will be all right .
Best of luck.
Hi,
I am 12 days post TLH and was on crutches morning day 2 and now from time to time during the day use one crutch for about 5 to 10 mins. But not rushing it, gradual build up at own pace and ensuring doing required exercises. Then rewarded by mugs of tea and chocs. As others have said you go at the pace that suits you and comfortably.
Good luck and best wishes.
Hi
Firstly, we all heal a different rates so dont compare yourself,
I only used a walker the couple of days in hispital.....going home after the first THR I was give 2 sticks, and the 2nd THR 2 crutches. Same surgeon, same hospital so dont know why the diference
I just stopped using one of them {inside} when I thought I could.....your body should tell you. Keep on using them outside for quite a while.

hello yeah thee phisio told me from a walker direct to 1 stick,
so basicly here they dont give crutches
for the other hand i barely use the walker ow 6 days after total hip,
the problem my left its also in pain, so i can use it as well
Hi Moi,
I am 18 days post op and I am still in the rehab. I am expected to use a walker. But I have a restriction of no weight bearing for 6 weeks.
I fell early right out of surgery and now I have to have a companion to go everywhere.
I am doing all kinds of exercises that strengthen my upper body as we as my legs.
Moi , take it slow and easy and if you feel that you would do better with the walker or the sticks or nothing, then do it. You only have once to heal right. Each day you exercise, tomorrow you will be stronger.
Take care!

Hi, I only used walker first day in hospital then they put me on two sticks. I am five weeks post op and walking unaided in the house. Use one stick when out, more for confidence. You need to do what you feel comfortable with. It is not a race and everyone is different. The fact that you are walking couple of times a day is brilliant. Every day will bring a new achievement no matter how small. Take your time, you are doing good x
