came home saturday and although sore and tired, i felt i was doing ok. sunday and yesterday were even better. less pain, more energy etc. Last night i woke to an intense ache in my hip, shooting pains when i moved and ended up getting about 2 hours sleep. Today i cant sleep at all. im just too uncomfortable. I keep getting these weird shivers across my body and im either hot and clammy or shivering. no temp tho so i dont think its anything serious. I suspect its just the result of averaging 4 hours sleep a night and major surgery catching up with me but i feel really really rough today.
Hi I had the weird shivery thing for a few days too also despite it being warm was constantly cold, so I think it must be a reaction to the surgery, aneasthetic and possibly shock. It does get better just cling on. Good luck with your recovery
It's very early days and the body has had a tremendous shock! Hopefully your recovery will continue but....you will have to have patience with yourself! Not something any of us like I don't think but it can take longer for some than for others, wishing you well.
HI Helen,
I think Tracey is right a reaction post op, I was exactly the same and the shivering led to my leg going into spasm. I called the GP and he said all normal and that the shivering and spasm was my bodies way of starting muscles going again. I was about 2 - 3 days like that but now I'm day 11 muscles, energy and appetite feeling much better. Try getting into a routine re rests and activity it really helped me focus away from the shivering. Take care
I'm 17 days post op and recovery is very gradual with ups and downs. I get times when I'm quite depressed with the aches and pains. I don't get shivers but i do get hot spells and occasional shooting pains. However I can definitely do more than when I came home. I think you have just got to expect ups and downs. I try to specifically note when I do something more to take away from the down times. It definitely helps.
Hi Helen. I came home Saturday too. I severe full body tremores both Saturday and Sunday evening, resulting in my sitting half in, half out of bed, gripping a pillow, trying to stop the shaking. Sunday night, I actually got the bottle of oramorph and took a mouthfull, not a spoon.I think it has to do with the stress your body is subjected to. Last night, it didnt happen. I was doing quite well untill wrenching my knee and hip yesterday. The aches and stiffness have increased by the hour. I am just back from xrays being taken, no obvious sign of damage thank goodness.
I think it is very early days, just take each day and do the best you can. I hope that you manage to sleep tonight. I wake about 3pm, and then am awake for ages. You take care, and in a couple of weeks we will be looking back, amazed at how well we are doing.xx
i would kill for some oramorph right now. i came home with codeine, paracetamol, ibuprofen and nefopam. as i take cocodamol regularly for a chronic pain condition im fairly immune to its effects (keeps my chronic pain levels at a dull roar), leaving me with nefopam and ibuprofen. im not too surprised im not sleeping really.
glad to hear you havent damaged anything when you tripped. i think that would be my worst nightmare right now.
Good morning helen - I hope you had a better night ... I had similar problems, the shivering and feeling cold to a point that I was sure I was getting the flu ... this place here is a Godsend ... we are normal !!! keep warm - take it easy -
Hi Helen, oooooh, (my back) this morning! Slept through the night for first time, only problem was my back seized and I desperately needed the loo!lols my feet and legs were next to useless, no help at all. Poor Eric, he didn't know which bit to try to help first. Oramorph does help me. I am already on pregabalin, duloxetine and 30mg morphine for the pain in my feet and back, with paracetamol on the side. Oramorph does help settle me so that I can relax. It's there if I need it, but I usually try to limit it to only once or twice a night, if pain is bad.
Enough bout me and my wonky body, how are you? I hope you managed to get some rest. It's a bright and beautiful morning where I am, hope it's the same for you. We had these ops at the right time of year because no doubt about it....the sun lifts your soul.xx
I slept over 7 hours without waking once. yay. woke with a banging headache and achy back but both of those will ease soon. Everything is so much easier to cope with when youre not exhausted to the point of weeping isnt it.
Hi Helen,
i bet bet you feel like you can conquer the world this morning. I know exactly what you mean with regards to the headache and back ache, I slept 4 hours, woke for loo and then another 3 hours and I was exactly the same. Had a brew and a couple of paracetamol and am as right as rain again. Going to pull some bulbs out of pots today as it looks a nice day ..... Getting back to normal is great! Have a good day.
Thats great Helen. When my legs finally woke up, I have had a lovely shower this morning. Feel so much lighter lols.xx
