6 Week Check-Up!

Had my 6 week check up and my surgeon says everything looks great!!!  He discharged me from Physical Therapy but encouraged me to continue my exercises at home. He and his Physician Assistant answered every one of my myriad of questions and took the time to explain what I should and shouldn't do.

My experience has been a good one so far and I encourage anyone having second thoughts about the surgery to have it done!

I am only allowed to do walking my consultant doesn't want any other exercises done yet see what happens in 6 weeks, I only had my op done a week ago yesterday

They started me exercising the day after my surgery. The first 2 weeks were the roughest but I survived. Don't let it get you down. I didn't see improvements until week 3 and it just keeps getting better. I am still on a cane because I have a slight limp yet but since I have no arthritis pain in my hip I tend to start walking too fast.

I haven't been able to do that in 5 years!

So hang in there! You'll be fine just give it time!

That's good news. Can you drive now?

Hi Anne!

My doctor left it up to me. He said that when I feel confident enough I could drive.

I'm not going to push it because I still get some groin pain when I turn my leg inward as if I were stepping on the brakes.

He didn't want me doing anything (including exercises) that would cause groin pain.

That's interesting. Have you had a lot of groin pain? I've had a few stabbing pains in the groin area since my op but I had them before my op too. Maybe the surgeon thinks rotation is affecting some tendon or ligament - did he say why?

good evening ... it is really intersting how different some of the approaches re: recovering are ,,,, I live in Holland and Physocal Therapy is almost a must right after THR - the morning after the surgery a PT came and I had to walk around -then sit in a chair for one hour and I had to move my operated leg back and forth (not breaking the 90* ) - She came back in the afternoon and I had to pracice again-  I almost passed out, probably because my bloodpressure  dropped - same on the 2 days following, walking around the hall way and doing exercises , including steps - i also had to give them the name of a Physical Therapist who would do follow up visits when I got home - I am 9 weeks post op and this week goint to PT twice - stationary bike, wobbling board, leg press and some leg manupaltions ... 40 minutes total --- at home I just take take walks and do my exercises - I don't have stairs though and that makes a difference in building up strength - it takes longer ...     interesting

My doctor said it was the muscle and tendons.

thanks miele
