6 week post op check up.

Tomorrow morning I have my 6 week post opp from rectocele check up at the gp's I'm not really sure what to expect and I'm kinda dreading it. I still find it sore and uncomfortable when I wipe after going to the toilet and have had a bit of spotting but think that's due to stitches falling out. Any advice welcomed.xxx

Hello Topsi. Well first of all if you don't want to be examined say so especially as you are still a bit sore. The 6 week check is really too early following this operation, ideally it should be around 8-10 weeks, that's when I had mine and the surgeon who repaired my prolapse still does. You could always postpone the appointment until a later date.

Hi Topside, I have my 6 week check up tomorrow evening with my consultant, know what you mean, I feel a bit anxious too. Will be interesting to see how the different appointments go, we'll have to compare notes. I too am still seeing blood when I wipe myself, some days more than others but never heavy, more like the end of a period. Stitches have not really given me any problems. X

Some consultants won't examine patients if there's recently been a slight bleed but then others do. If you are sore before an examination be prepared to be a bit more sore after an examination.

Hello - in theory I am supposed to have apost-op appt at 6 weeks but the nurses at the pre-op sad it was more likely to be 8 - 10 weeks due to too many patients. I haven't yet had a date through yet. Can't say that I am eager to go to be poked around yet!

You are a week ahead of me. Im not sore or uncomfortable after using the loo. I posted earlier about feeling as I was before the op  - more bulgy and draggy feeling. Which is a bit depressing as I feel I've gone backwards!

I too have had some spotting in the last few days - first time.

Are you working  - are you back at work yet?

I don't think anyone should go back to work before their post op check and that's the advice I always gave. How do you know everything has healed properly?

I hope all goes well for you tomorrow carolyn. I'll have my fingers crossed for us both.xxx

Hi did you have an A&P? That's what I had, I know what you meen about the dragging feeling, when I walk a little to much I have that the bulgy nests as really slowed down now for me just now and then, I am so scared to pick anything up other than a cup.

are you still taking parocetomal, I am as I don't like the discomfort, I to am 5 weeks tomorrow xx

Thanks matron the for your advice it always calms me down a little.xxx

No Gillian just the posterior repair for the rectocele. I have been picking things up. I was shocked at first - I am very strong - particularly my upper body - and to feel the strain when I picked up a bottle of milk was a complete shock. I do feel better now and can carry about 5lb really comfortably.

Glad to hear (in a way!) that you too still have the draggy feeling. I do take painkillers but I also have a knee problem so take pain relief anyway. I was surprised that the pain from this op was quite minimal for me. I've had knee surgery too and that felt like someone was hitting me with a hammer for a few weeks!

Exactly matron!. I was signed off for 6 weeks by the surgeon. I will go to the gp this week. My sick note runs out next Tuesday but it's a bank holiday so I'll try to get an appt for this Thursday or Friday. Except if the post op appt doesn't come through til the 10 - 12 week period that's quite a long time to be off work..........................

It may seem to be a long time off work but remember you've had major surgery. I'm sure the appointment will come through before then.

I work for a surgeon and appreciate follow up appointments can be difficult to get but ring the secretary and say that your appointment is necessary, I get that all the time and secretaries can make things happen.

Yes carolyn - secretaries are the most important people. I work with paediatricans and have made friends with their secretaries!! I did have to chase up the original appt anyway. The gp will give me another sick note if necessary - I will see what comes through in the next week - I wasn't expecting an appt for the 6wk mark as they said more like 8 - 10

Hi there I also get a dragging sensation it's usually if iv done to much the day before. I'm not planning on going back to work yet as I'm a beauty therapist so I have to do full body massages and I don't feel ready to do that yet.xxx

Hi chic, you have had major sergery JUST lol.

i have had every symptom and without matron OMG the surgeon and hospital would have had more call than enough, I think the discomfort is when you do to much, how have you got ton5lb so quick I scares the life out of me ?

There was an article in The Times at the weekend about befriending consultant secretary's and get to know their Christian names and buy them chocolates!

Works a treat, 😊

😂😂

I think because I am/was physically strong anyway - I think you can only do or lift what you can at any time.

The wrst for me is the plunge into menopaisal syptoms big time - sitting here drippiing in sweat at the moment and with all the depression that comes with it. Don't know why or how but hey ho!
