6 Week progress checkup today - what to expect

Hi all

I was 6 weeks post op yesterday (TAH/BSO) and am going to hospital this afternoon for progress/ checkup.

I am worried about returning to work (sick note runs out this Saturday) as I have quite a stressful job and demanding boss. Normally do around 6 hours aday.

I haven't been sleeping at all well and had lot of night sweats - hopefully will get put on some HRT patches this afternoon.

Feeling pretty low - not sure if it's coz I'm tired or worried about work.

Still get painful wind every now and then, and struggling with toilet (No. 2).

Any suggestions? Is it too soon? When did everyone else go back to work after TAH?

What do I suggest to my doctor?

Thanks

Hi Susie

i am 9 weeks post op yesterday. Back to docs next Thursday but plan to take 12 weeks if I can.

Dont hurry back. My hrt has been working great. I am using a gel. I have been on it for 8 weeks.

I think your symptoms will improve with hrt.

Take more time off

I am sure you will get another note - I had the same op 11 weeks now, I am retired so I don't have to worry about work  I would not be ready to do  my job if I was still working (health care assistant) unless they could find me light duties

Hi Susie I went back to work after 6weeks and in hindsight I wished I would have waited. I too had a demanding job on my feet all day lifting and bending. I ended up with a hernia so please take the time you need to recover. Stay well🌻🌻

Hi Susie

I returned to work at 7 weeks which was on Monday as I do a very demanding job (Veterinary Nurse) the doctor woud only allow a phased return on reduced hours and light duties, I was happy with this as I felt really well and so far so good but yesterday afternoon I was absolutly shattered. You must do what you want to do and dont let your boss force you back,I am sure youe doctor will give you another note, Mine was originally for 12 weeks so dont worry about going back if you dont feel up to it, My HRT has been working well and has made me feel much better so hopefully once that is sorted for you, you will start to feel more human.

Hope all goes well at the post op check.

Hi Maxine and thank you for your reply.

Did you feel ready to go back to work after 6 weeks? Was that your choice?

Was your hernia a result of the lifting and bending?

My job is more mentally stressful than physical stress

Hi Susie

Listen to your body. Tell doctor how you feel they will give you more time. I was due back June 8th and now set for June 22nd. This is now pending due to #2 issues. I am on my 7th week post. I see my gastro tomorrow for follow up. This has been the worst part for me. I also have burning/hurting lower tummy. Get well.

Well I've been told all is ok and I shouldn't have any problems going back to work. No sick note (whatever they are called now), no nothing. Just HRT patches.

Happy days

Hi susie

If you don't feel well enough I d phone your doctors for a sick note, my gyno told me you are allowed 12 weeks minimum and there's nothing anyone can do to stop you having it. I m 9 weeks post op today and started HRT 2 weeks ago with little difference. Went to see my doctor Monday as I ve felt like an old woman with night sweats, not sleeping and achy bones but he won't higher my dosage for another month, he says he wants me to be on it for at least a month to let it get into my system. There's no way I could go back to work yet, I get so tired x
