I went through hideous side effects for 4 weeks on 10 mg. Started to feel better then but my Dr. upped me to 20 ten days ago. Last week i had 2 great days but now the anxiety is back!
Any advice please?
Stick it out man. The effects you’re feeling now are from the increased dosage.
What is the indicator of needing an increase of the medication?
i hope the doc had a good reason to increase as they tend to do it regardless! they increased my dosage twice and i couldnt hack 20mg, so stayed on 10mg
What was the reason for the increase?
How long have you been on? Does it seem to be working? If so when did you notice a change?
Yeah I started at 10 mg for 4 days then to 20mg. I’m going into week 4 hoping to feel the effects…
hi
try to stick with it, it can take about 8 weeks for the side effects to completely go but they do ease gradually. Now that youve had a few days on the increased dose if you stop youll have further side effects from withdrawl.
You will have good and bad days but very slowly it will become easier.
have you tried CBT or anything?
He said 10mg wasn’t enough & said i should up it. I have GAD don’t know how/why it came on. I’m a lucky man & have a good life. Its the physical symptoms & the mornings.
Is cit the right med??
A bit & some hypnotherapy.
I have GAD , it came on end of september & was awful.
Just don’t get it, i have a good life & no worries but the physical symptoms are awful as you probably know!
I will stick at it & thanks for your encouragement!!
These meds work ver slowly. Impotant to give them 8-12 weeks to begin to work well. Early dosage changes start the side effects all over sgain. I started on 20mg and am now taking 15. Working my way down to 10mg. 10 mg works great for most people with anxiety only. I’ve been taking 15 for 5 weeks now waiting to ensure I’ve settled there before decreasing again.
hi ive been taking cit now for about 3 years…and to be honest i have been so very lucky!! i started off on 10mg…and to be honest within hours the severe headache id had for weeks had started to lift!! i was amazed!! 4 days later i could feel my symptoms coming back!! headache…feeling lathargic…feeling sick…no appetite…frightened…horrible feeling…i rang my gp who was amazing…and he told me to listen to my body and up my dose!! i did…and again i felt relief within hours…ive been on 30mg now for the past 3 years and fingers crossed i have never been back to that dark unhappy place since!! i guess what im saying is everyone is different…listen to your body and how it is making you feel…if you felt really good on 10mg…well id go back to that!! but that is just my opinion…citalopram is all about balancing them scales…some need more than others… x
Hi Stephen, what you must remember that every time you change dosage ,you will get side effects as if you were starting fresh again ,and that is that the body has too get used too the ssri inside the medication.
Thanks for the advice everybody.
These forums are far more help than the doctors. I’ve had 5 appointments with 5 different doctors. Not one of them even looked at me, just stared at their screens tapping away. They all had different opinions and their favourite “go to” meds.
Anybody do any good with CBT ?
Yep. I see therapist once a month and it really helps me slong with the meds. My doc says lots of times with therapy people can get off meds.
