My PCP referred me to a urologist for BHP symptoms (frequency, urgency, getting up at night.. classic symptoms). When I arrived at the urologist for my visit the first thing they did was a quick bladder scan (my PCP told me it was normal). I got the impression that since my scan was normal the urologist wasn't interested at all in treating me (must be insurance won't cover expensive treatments with a normal bladder scan). The visit was to say the least disappointing. He basically just shrugged off every question I had with a just live with it attitude. He never examined me, we just talked for 15 minutes and then I left. He said no follow up needed. I tried various medications in the past but they really didnt help. I felt very rejected after the appointment and don't want to go back, even to a different urologist. He was the least caring Dr. I think I have ever met (and I'm a polite, respectful patient). Now a few months have past and I'm growing weary about getting up 2 or 3 times a night. Not sure what I should do...
Hey Buddy
Sometimes that will happen. You can’t give up. Find another Urologist. There are some that are very nice. He never check your prostate or anything else. You should not have to put up with that.
If you have a Walmart’s by you go and check out the AZO products maybe there would be something that will help you for now. Try not to drink before bed and if you can take a hot shower that should make you pee some and also may help you sleep better.
Good luck…Ken
You did not mention your age and other health conditions, but consider the following:
- See another urologist;
- Have a urine test (or buy express tests);
- Have a urine flow test;
- Have a transabdominal ultrasound with PVR.;
- Have a PSA test every 3-6 months.
Most likely you will need to have an MRI after all the above, unless a trivial cause is determined.
