I have been doing well I thought. 100% straight and at 128 degrees at PT. No change in amount of exercises or movement but suddenly knee is extremely tight with very poor ability to bend. Only thing I can think is that I have been doing exercises in evening versus morning. Would that cause tightness if I went to bed after exercising? Pain in lower calf and inside knee. Would appreciate thoughts
You are doing good! Why are you still doing PT at that degree? I stopped at 120 degrees!
Hi Pat I am where you are at post op.I too have tight calf Mus lea and quads.I was told my walk because of pain caused this I walked flaring my foot out for 5 years which is why I pay now tight IT band and calf muscle
Hope this helped
MY foot never flared out until after this surgery. The doctor puts you up on a block during the surgery, they rotated your pelvis. You need to go to a chiropractor and get your pelvis put into alignment and it may take several adjustments. This will also decrease your knee pain.
A TKR recovery is NOT a linear process. There are advances, setbacks and plateaus...all part of the game. I could go on and on, but I think a single visual tells it all...

PS: Remember the oars for the boat part...
PPS: The tightness/stiffness fades very gradually. Can still feel it a bit 12-18 months or longer if you don't stay active.
Hi Carol, I no longer go to a therapist ; I just do my home exercises to be certain I maintain while i’m Still healing
Is it swollen Pat? Swelling and fluid could cause all of this as I am currently finding out.
No, thankfully there is minimal swelling but I appreciate the question. Sorry you’re having that. This is definitely s marathon
It most certainly is and when you think your on the up your knee gives you a gentle reminder that it’s not lol.
So very true. Other surgeries I have had and broken bones don’t compare with this. Hang in there!!
