They did or not

Hi Dominic. I have my pre-op assessment this morning so I'll ask about the naproxen. I would have thought not though as you're supposed to be nil by mouth from the night before. I'll report back though!

Hi dominic,

At pre-op I had to take the meds with me and then received a print out what I could take or which ones I had to stop ...

when did you have your pre-op assessment for this surgery?

I wouldn't guess though -

what date is your surgery ...

let us know how you are doing okay?

big warm hug

Hi Dominic...  I was told not to take any medication the morning before my op...

How long are you going to be in, I found taking my Ipod useful to lay with music helped me sleep.   I also took my laptop as no tv in the hospital but I wanted to watch the Olympics.

Slippers are a must but not backless ones, loose clothing, ie shorts, jogging bottoms, and tshirts... you will be out of bed the next day.

I did take my kindle but found I could not concentrate to read.

Are you having a GA or spinal... makes a difference to your recovery.

Good luck come back if you need more answers.

Hi Dominic,

Two things I wished I had taken were an eye mask and earplugs to help sleeping! Also some wet wipes since I was expected to wash from a bowl for the first two mornings. Not easy in bed with a catheter!!

All the best for your op and speedy recovery

Janet

I was told to take my usual medication, using just as midge of water.

Loose clothes, iPad if you have one, loose clothes. Where I was part of the physio was how to get dressed. Indoor shoes or stout slippers, non slip and allow for the swelling

all thebest

Hi Dominic

I'm nearly 3 weeks post op. Depending on the time of your admission. Mine was 12 noon. I was allowed breakfast at 6am and could take my meds.

With hindsight being a great thing.

My consultant always sees spinal block. Means you are totally numb from waist down for a few hours following the op. I was given the choice of staying awake. Light sedation or full GA.

I opted for full GA. if I ever had to have it again I would stay awake. My op was late Fri pm and it was Sunday and beyond before I felt even half human. I had TV as it was private hosp although NHS. I had no concentration for days either to watch TV read etc.

Also I had no appetite at all and felt quite nauseous. Never had that reaction to GA before.

The first 2 weeks a were the worst for me. Learning to sleep on your back and the other restrictions. Once I knocked the heavy pain relief n the head I felt 100% better. As I say week 3 and feeling good and recovering well. Do your recommended physio as it really helps. I've got by by looking at small steps.

Good luck. I'm sure you will be fine. Keep us posted on how you are doing. This forum really helps especially in the early days. Then you can help and encourage others on their journey as we all recover at different rates.

Not meant to have anything to eat but they did give me a carbohydrate drink to take in the morning

Had my pre op quite a few weeks ago now going in for the op on the 18th

Spinal but with sedation so iam alseep they dont like doing ga if they can help it but i have had ga in the past and been ok with recovery

Great that you are having spinal as you will recover quicker...  it is nice to be able to eat and drink so quickly.   I suggest you take all the pain meds you can after as it does help to get moving.

I had spinal for bi-lateral hip replacement in August this year and was amazed how good I felt after this.

I found my ipod to be most valuable as I would listen to music and sleep, often found myself waking up in the mornings with music still playing.

Good luck and do let us know how you are doing.

Hi

I was told at my pre op to stop taking naproxen a week before surgery as it can increase the risk of bleeding

Hope this helps

Hi again Dominic. Just back from pre-op assessments and was told no naproxen for four days prior to surgery as it's a blood thinner as someone else said. Paracetamol was ok. If you're in the U.K. and this is NHS I'm guessing your advice would have been the same. I got lots of leaflets so you might want to check if they wrote it down for you. Good luck with your op.

that is around the corner then ...

Just want to add that I was  told to stop taking a herbal medicine for sleep 4 days prior surgery date -

what medication are taking right now ?

Should only be in for a week if that

Just had a phone call from my consultants about what i can and cant take. I should stop taking naproxen and most of the other medication i am on today .god this is going to be a long painful week at work bad at min with pain killers never mind without 😢

I was in for a week, because I was unable to do the steps, the last day I went down to physio and it was like no effort, in 24hrs a great improvement.. they were amazed.  Whether it was physical or mental I did the steps with ease, and planned my journey home 4hrs trip for me.   I had my op done out of area so maybe you will not have to sit and plan a route for ease and comfort.

Poor you Dominic

I was fortunate as I have a high pain threshold and only ever took couple of paracetamol for all I was bone on bone.

Keep positive and just think after this op the only pain you will have is healing pain. I stopped all the heavy pain meds after 10 days and a friend advised a homeopathic medication called Arnica. I admit I would have laughed at this however having taken it for a week and made so much progress I'm not laughing now.

Keep focused and this too will pass. Love light and healing friend. Any questions this is the place. If you get down come back and winge. We are all here to help you through. X

I put together a list of ideas from hippies on this forum on my website in the 'Admission' section.

Hi Dominic, I also had to stop naproxen for the week before, but I could still take other meds like codeine. Wishing you all the best, I'm 3 months post op today!
