Good morning Susan ,
I am really not in a position to aswer your question right now .. Had R THR March 16, 2015 and left hip is so bad right now and in need of THR surgery - because of new hip is compensating I do have pain in right buttock -
Did you do anything different? There is a big muscle there too ...
If it is not going away, or getting worse maybe you can see your GP ...
ache is different from pain, right?
Maybe other fellow hippies can help you ease your mind ...
take care today
warm hug

Hi Sue,I am like you! I had my hip done in march! But still feel a dull ache in the right side! I am so scared about any hospital and can't cope .I have to care for my disabled Hubby! His mobility isn't good as he too has arthritis in hips, knee's and lower spine. He's also deaf and severely sighted. So I have a lot on my plate.I am having regular jacuzzis &reflexology! I also suffer from anxiety! Which doesn't help. But I was warned that the op can take longer than we think to completely heal! So sorry for ranting! Good luck, regards Amanda
Hi Sue
I had my right THR 5th Feb this year. I get a lot of aching especially in my butt. It's usually when I've been overdoing it. I find kneeling or stretching tends to set it off but I sometimes forget about the hip and do it anyway.
I'm hoping it will settle down in time but if you're really worried go see your GP.
Allright I think I can help. Butt pain.
#1 I discovered that my sofa coushions were to hard and also they rested on wooden boards of the pull out bed below. I removed the cusions and replaced with a very soft single bed mattress, foam. You can get them inexpensively. The thicker the better. This has made all the difference in the world for me. I don't know if you work, and if so if you sit at work, but whereever you spend a lot of hours on your butt I recommend thick foam. I thought I was going to need my other hip replaced but after using a thick foam mattress on the sofa that I sit at a LOT, my unoperated hip is no longer that bad. In other words I thought a second THR was immenant, I had a lot of butt pain, but with this new mattress it no longer bothers me but a little tiny bit.
Second thing is you can use pain cream on it In France it is Volterene, in the UK it has a slightly different but similar name but the active ingrediant is diclofenac. Try some of that, rub it in liberally, the 2% is better than the 1%. I used Volterene pain cream every night for a year, for butt pain, prior to my THR. After my THR I still used it when I started walking again, I found my shin hurt or my ankle hurt, or it was my knee, that Volterene worked excellent for me.
The problem is when you have the pain you rub it in and you want it to work immediatly and it doesn't. It takes about 30 minutes to work but it does work really well. I found months after my surgery now and then I would get the butt pain but I rubbed in that Volterene Cream, it would take it away and I would not get the pain the next day.
Best of luck to you.
Hi
i am 6months now and get buttock ache. I also have a hard piece at the top of the scar which the doctor dismissed but I think there is something under it. It is a big muscle that they cut through so I suppose it is healing still. People keep telling me that it can take up to a year before things settle down despite those people out there who seem to drop their walking sticks and crutches and walk miles and miles every day!!! I am very active but still in quite a lot of pain which I was hoping would have gone by now. However must be thankful that I have had it done as some people are waiting ages.

Hi Hilary,I too am not out of the woods & even now get an ache in my hip & buttock! But I also am not surprised as I am a full time carer for my disabled Hubby! He too has chronic mobility problems and is deaf & severely sighted.I have been told it can take a good year! I go and have a jacuzzi and also reflexology when ever I can.regards Amanda
Hi Amanda
thanks for your comments. Reflexology sounds good. I think you are a marvel looking after someone when you have had a hip op.

Hi Sue, Thank-you for your reply. Yes its really not easy at all for me but I have no choice but to care for My Disabled Husband who also has oa of the spine, hips and knees, he s also severely sighted & deaf. I have to help him walk as he needs help as he could fall.I will keep up the jacuzzis and reflexology when I can. But to have another op no way as I am so scared. regards Amandah
