Oh yes, this is a frequently posted complaint. In my case, the need to pee at night lasted about 2 weeks, but it can be more or less.
Someone else posted on this forum that:
'Apparently when we lie down, the fluid in the legs go through the kidneys faster, making the need for several toilet visits during the night.
So by morning our legs have drained until we sit or stand up again. It does gradually sort itself out over a few weeks.'
(The fluid referred to is the internal swelling due to the op.)
Here's a thought - perhaps as part of the op we should have a tap attached to each big toe, thereby draining the legs each night - at least that way you'd get a full nights sleep!!![]()
hi jo,
I agree with chloeparrot - it is not mentioned anywhere so big concern, right - phew, so exhausting - getting out of bed, going to the toilet, getting back and in to bed and bu the time you finally found your spot, you have to go again ---
I had UTI after being discharged from hospital , but that feels different ....
good exercise though ...
are you on bloodthinning meds ? I had to self-inject fragmin for 6 weeks - this also might have something to do with it ---
I don't have any advice then just to go with it and accept that it is so at this time - it'll pass -
how are you getting on otherwise?
big warm hug

Hi Jo.....for some reason this is pretty normal after this surgery. I am not sure if it is the pain medications making us drink more or not. I had many days/nights like that after my surgery. Very frustrating when you are trying to rest. Hope you finally got some sleep. Wishing you well....Barb
Hello fellow 7/25 THR friend !
The frequent tinkle nites for me happen (i think) because I wake up almost once an hr, and then I have to go. Under normal circumstances, i usually wake up once a night and then go. My sleep has improved a bit, so I am not going as much. My surgeon told me to get some benadryl to help with my sleep. I guess, He didnt want me to take a prescribed type medicine, I am ok with that. Its obviously hard to sleep with a pillow between my legs & not be able to sleep on my stomach.
I have also cut down drastically on the pain pills, I have taken some tylenol instead.
The last time I had my THR Jan 2013, my bending/lifting restrictions were for 7 weeks, this time post op the surgeon told my wife, 12 wks, wonder if he misspoke or what. I have my 2 week check up on Tues Aug 9th, I guess, I will find out then !
Good luck with your sleep etc....

I am retired jo.....am currently 11 weeks post op today and going in 10 more days for my next....so here goes the recovery all over again. At least I will be able to recover from that pain, unlike this constant pain I have in my left hip...Glad you got some meds and are feeling better. Hope you get some rest....Barb

Hope it goes well
Have a lovely today๐๐๐ป
Oh my, the first night I had to go every 30 minutes. After about 10 times I was so exhausted I couldn't get my legs back into bed. I hated calling the nurse in all throughout the night, and it was very painful if I didn't go, the pressure was unbearable. Fortunately for me that was the worst of it, after that I was up 4-6 times a night out had my wallet with the pee up right there so I didn't have to walk to the bathroom every time.
every hour through the night for me at the start. It does wear off though. See my blog on the website (address in the graphic below).

The tylenol helps a bit I think.
It seems like my pain (not bad) kicks in when I try to go to sleep !
Have a great nite/day, wherever you might be !
Ho my gosh ! The send week I think ,bi am 5 weeks now . I was up every 30 mins with a full Blatter . I would get back in bed and it was very hard for me to go . My leg felt like it was 50 lbs and I had to drag it and lift it with a cane or get my husband up to help me in and out of bed . It was awful I counted 23 times I got up to pee in one night .. This happen three night ,, they say it's a way of shedding the fluid .. I was exausted
