7 weeks in and signed off!

I'm very happy to have been signed off for the next 3 months after THR 7 weeks ago, I feel I'm doing well even though I feel after physio today I've been driven over twice! What I was unprepared for was seeing my x ray with a great big screw in the top of my socket! Has anyone else had this, will it be problematic in the future? X

Hi jackie

Excellent news u made it thru therapy.. U have worked very hard to get UR mobility back.. I am very happy for u.. It's not easy in any way. Every day u get a little better, a little stronger. Then UR off with THR in short time will be just a memory... Trust me UR hip will take u thru many years ahead screw and all. The screws actually help stabilize the hip for longer wear with less complications. No worries I have them I'm hips & shoulders. Just give the security workers at the airport all the pics they want...

Then watch the expression on their faces. Actually it's a look of disbelief... Not many have seen them thru the  X-ray scanners at the airport before.... Then they stll have to verify UR hip prothesis is not disguised as a THR explosive... feeling UR hip & back clever little gloved hands and the hand metal wand... flying thru UR crotch like they goose airline passingers evey 5 minutes...not a flinch on their facial expression.

""just saying.." It not all peaches & cream unless the security screener happens to be really cute...LOL

So take a trip & celebrate before summer is over....u deserve it...and down a few maragaritas for me! Strawberry! There always a brighter side fron THR... & u made it!

peace, luv & laughter.

Hi

Great you have been signed off for 3 months, as long as you still get your full pay, I went back to work after 8 weeks the only problem I had was I travel on the underground and in the first few days one guy kicked one of my sticks away luckily I was stable and didn't fall flat on my face.

I also have a screw apparently it's very common.

I have travelled abroad a couple of times recently and not a squeak from the scanners.

We chatted before on line about your history of dislocated hip at birth and a short leg which you have now had corrected. How short was your left leg?

I'm afraid I don't get full pay as I'm self employed arghhhhh, living off the husband ATM!! But as much as I need to get back to work I won't rush it, I've waited so long for this I'm not going to mess it up, my leg was 1/2 inch shorter, I feel it's much less now but it's def not the same length as they keep saying, but maybe it's my imagination, I have walked wonky for so long, this is such a big improvement x

Yes best to take things slow and take no risks. I thought my leg was 1/2 inch shorter but the consultant said it was more like an inch, and that he could give me back the leg length, it's now no different. I have just received my medical records from the hospital and he even wrote to my GP saying he could fix it yet after the op he wrote to my GP saying he told me he could give me back most of the descrepancy, I can't accept how dishonest he has been, disgraceful for a so called professional. After 49 years of living with a limp this was my chance to get it fixed.

Well, my physio measured  me and said my legs are now the same length ( I'm not so sure) however, I do have to factor in that my spine etc has altered over the years to compensate for the discrepancy so is it possible that he has given you extra length but your body is still a bit wonky? I've spent the last 7 weeks twisting my body in order to walk straight, it looks normal to others but it feels so alien to me, I'm not sure I will ever walk straight again after all these years but I am out of pain and I'm not limping, are you still limping? Xx

Yes I still have a limp and my leg is definately the same length as pre op I can tell by looking in the mirror, and the physio measured a 2cm difference, I've also seen a podiatrist for a heel raise and he said the difference is 2.5cm. The consultant admitted that he positioned the socket higher than in the pre op plans, although he hasn't admitted it he didn't carry out grafting which was required due to the lack of bone stock where the socket should have been positioned. It seems to me he did what was easiest for him and not that which gave me the best result.

It's great you not in pain and are not limping, hopefully with time it will feel more comfortable for you.

Jean sorry to hear of UR leg length descrepency. It has always been a issue in THR.. yet before surgery our leg length is off too!

be careful and I hope UR limp is the result of healing .

if it does not go away then u may need to get another opinion or return for options to help.

heel lifts did not help me it was PT THAT HELPED SO MUCH..
