7 weeks on Citalopram 10 mg feeling very anxious and sluggish.

I've been on Citalopram for 7 weeks and still having all day anxiety and feeling very sluggish. And still having foggy head. Mind always on overload. My mind has been trained to worry since I was young so it's kind of hard to get out of that habit. My doctor just prescribed me lorazepam also but I'm Afraid to take it. I know I also have to do some work towards getting better instead of just depending on the pill. It's easier said than done. Due to me hating to take medication.

Hi daisy I am a mental health nurse and have suffered on n off with depression and anxiety for a long time with few setbacks .one I'm having at present with increased worry like u my mind programmed for this so it's on overdrive I am having loads of negative thoughts and everything is effort. I have recently been to gp who has increased my dose from 20 to 30mg a few days ago. I also have 2 year old girl and various stresses with another baby on the way and also feeling I can't do anything .keep in touch as a problem shared definitely helps. I am 36 years old and married force years and feel unable to be happy.

Diazepam or lorazepam short term will help you with sleep but will make u tired so don't take and drive or operate machinery. Hope this info can help you.

Hi daisy im also a citalopram user 10mgs per day. Been on them for 2 and a half yrs now. I do say i went very low before i started to get better so please keep at the tablets. Diazepam helped me to with the severe anxiety bouts. Im on an even balance now and feel the best i have ever done.

Keep at it good luck andrew.

Hey! Thank u so much. I just feel like I will never get better. I still have the spaced out feeling. There's days that are better than others but the past couple days I felt like I was going down hill. I woke up a little better today. But I'll get sticking them out. I'm a very Anxious person that's why I got the lorazepam. But haven't taken them.

Hey Steve! I have negative thoughts too. I'm 27 years old with a 9 year old and 1 year old boys. I've been on a relationship for 4 years with a iraq war veteran with PTSD. I worked as a medical assistant but am currently not working due to my anxiety. It's been 2 months since I stopped working. I worry about everything literally. My biggest fear is going crazy as silly as it sounds.

Please take the larazepam as it will take the edge off how your feeling..... your gp wouldnt have prescribed them otherwise. Ive experienced what you are going through and its not pleasant. Unfortunatly its not an overnight cure i seen a difference to me after about 4-5 months so your half way there daisy. X.

Ok thank you so much.

My dear friend daisy we are in the same boat just hang in there and we will be ok 100% in few more weeks.

Hi daisy

Has your doctor discussed upping your dose...I'm on citlrapram for anxiety also...I've only been on it 3 weeks and this is my second time on it...he has put me up to 20mg which is the therapeutic dosage for anxiety according to the packet.

I have to say the side effects were awful a bit like what your going through now but now I'm on 20mg the good is out weighing the bad.

You do have to trust the medication it works for the majority off people

Hi emma, how do you take your 20mg citalopram split times ie. 10mg in morning then 10mg at night ? Do you find its best to take it in the morning after breakfast or nightime before bed all 20mgs. Just curious. Im on 10mg and take it at after breakfast but was thinking of steping up to 20mg but scared of weight gain.

Thanks in advance.

We actually did discuss increasing it to 15 mg and then to 20 mg but I'm already afraid of this spaced out feeling. I'm afraid it's only going to get worse. So I told her no.

Hi Andrew

I take mine At 8am I found at night time I couldn't sleep... The side effects did get worse for a few days but I'm now 3 weeks in and I feel normal.

I actually went the other way regarding weight I actually stopped eating... My appetite has picked up.

Go for it xxx

Hi

I'm not going to lie it does get worse before better but then you do get better

But by increasing can it actually get any worse????

As I say 20 is the therapeutic dose

Good luck xx

Hi Daisy, I'm in exactly the same place and on the same journey. I'm on 7 1/2 weeks and I've still got some pretty bad days. But I said if give it 3 months and then reflect on any improvement. The above comments are reassuring, the dosage might be ok if we give it enough time, I'm trying to make sure I'm doing all the other helpful things for my anxiety as well. Hang in there.

Does the head fog go away eventually?

The lorazepam will help you relax and slow down your overactive brain. Persevere with your citalopram and never miss a dose or worse two doses or more as withdrawal symptoms can be horrific.

Hey I know you feel sluggish but that could be because you're not getting enough sleep.  If I don't get atleast 8 hours sleep I feel very anxious, well even more anxious.

Sleep is magic.  Is there anybody you can talk with? I find talking really helps, it doesn't have to be with anyone you know sometimes it helps to talk with somebody you don't.

Are you eating ok?

I think it's a good idea to take your medication as then you can get out of the vicious cycle of being exhausted and worried because you're not getting enough sleep.

Keep us posted,

All the best,

E

I never get a full 8 hours of sleep. I always wake up a couple times in the middle of the night. But I did notice that last night I got awful sleep and my anxiety is really bad today
