7 weeks post op and infection still present

Hi

Well 7 weeks post op things going ok apart from infection been on two lots of antibotics and they finished last week...during that time a second area has become infected red and very sore.

Consultant told me it was nothing and it would go away however gp was very concerned so mixed messages!! My 6 week check i was told i need to return in 6 weeks as still not right.

Decided im going back to gp on monday as I cant cope with feeling unwell.

When i think back to my operation last year i felt great at 7 weeks now in beginning to regret operation!!

Hi Dee,

So sorry to hear about th infections and you mentioned feeling unwell ?. If a temperature then I'd suggest by passing your GP but having a word in A & E to get more antibiotics faster. I've been very lucky to have no problems, but a couple of work colleagues had the same issues as you and quickly went on a second course through A&E as got worse over a weekend. Keep us all up to date.....thoughts with you.

Hi kevin

thank you for your kind words.....no temperature,do feel in wasting gp time even thou shes excellent esp when consultant dismissed the infection at the 6 week check. Still finding loads of things difficult which i had no problems doing with the other THR April 2014.

Hope you are doing well

Dee xx

Infection is the most dreaded complication in all joint replacements. Did the last doc you saw do any blood work?  If there is an infection your white blood cells will increase significantly to fight the infection and will show up in blood tests. If you have finished two rounds of antibiotics it's pretty normal to feel washed out but not that "sick" feeling. If you feel really concerned then I always feel better safe than sorry when it comes to infection and would get a second opinion. So, don't feel bad about it , just do it and either be assured it's ok or told there is trouble.

Good luck and blessings

Not good D.  Get to A&E.  Even jr dr can see if infection  taking over and they can take blood count as easily as taking yr temperature. If yr body telling you you're overwhelmed, listen to it.  The worst is septicaemia, the best is you're just run down and emotionally wiped out.  Who's the surgeon,  have you checked out online... Success rate etc. don't let that fester further...i
