76 yr old - 5 months in

Hello,
my mom (76 yrs old) got misdiagnosed (October 6th) with contact dermatitis 5 days in due to the rash and a sad excuse for a dr. No test.
Rash was left arm, shoulder, chest and back. Now ultra sensitive skin, itching, pain, and spasms.
A couple of er visits, ring worm diagnosis by that idiot and 2 months later finally got to see her dr who said ‘ya shingles’ (December 14th )- heres some cyclobensaprine and morphine refill.
Still no test- muscle spasms from hell but thats all they can do. :expressionless_face:

After 2 more weeks i finally had enough and publicly voiced my disgust with the dr ofc and got a call back, got gabapentin then got to a pain specialist wanting to do pain block injections right away(mom wanted info first). They told her to stop the gaba and they would call in a new med. med not called in- 2 days of hell- she did take the med she had when the scrip wasn’t in.
Another week, physical therapy appointment (useless due to pain not controlled). Phys. therapist tells us she was approved for mri. finally get that a few days later. no call back from pain dr. after 2 weeks. just disgusted.

5 months in …

Looking for anything that can help.
I had read a "natural treatment " dealing with immune system but can’t find it again.

Difficult to find any treatments other than common ones from drs. I came on here to see what anyone else had done to relieve their symptoms.

I do hope and pray everyone gets relief and is healed fast

I am about to hit the three month mark since getting shingles. I was in heaps of pain, which peaked about two weeks after the Famciclovir finished. No sleep for two weeks, an eye closed over for a week, severe photosensitivity. Adequate pain control is the most important thing early on. I read that b12 can help healing, and the earlier you start on it the better. I started with intramuscular injections, but changed to subcutaneous injections mid February as I read that they work better. I also have subcutaneous b1 for the itch, but it stings a lot so I can only have it in numb areas. I have noticed a return of nerve function where I have been injecting and the pain has reduced greatly, although I still take ibuprofen/paracetamol at least twice daily. Amitriptyline (25mg) is also of help now, but it makes me sleep for at least eight hours and drowsy for a few more than that, so I don’t take it often.

Everyone responds in their own way. The vitamins might be doing nothing for me, but I want peace of mind that I have tried.
