79YR OLD ON CITALOPRAM

My mother has been taking citalopram for approx 6 weeks. She is experiencing very bad shaking and tremors especially in her legs and arms. She is so incapacitated sometimes that she simply cannot stand up. I know the leaflet says something about tremors but has anyone else got experience of someone elderly having these effects?

Hi Loslinos

I don't know of anyone but stick around and I'm quite sure someone will know and be able to help you out.

Welcome by the way x

Yes, my Mum is taking Citalopram. She's been on 10mg for a couple of months now and she'll be 80 in April. She's just had her dosage increased to 20mg - the doctor didn't really know why he/she'd given her such a low dosage in the first place. She's also been prescribed Dihydrocodeine.

She was prescribed the Citalopram because she has spinal stenosis and is in a lot of pain and the doctor's logic was that she was also depressed (my Dad died 3 years ago) and that if she were less depressed she would cope with the pain better.

Like a lot of people writing on Citalopram she's always had trouble sleeping so again the doctor hopes that with less pain, or being able to cope with it better, she may sleep better.

Thankyou to both of you for your replies. I really appreicate it.
