The other day while out shopping, I locked myself out of my car and had to stand by my car while waiting for help in bitter cold windy winter weather. It took over an hour, plus the standing I did already while shopping.
All that standing caused so much pain in both hips with extra pain in the bad hip, that when my car was finally unlocked, I could barely climb in and had to have help walking into my house.
It scares me to be this de-conditioned, but I swear, the last year and a half of little activity because of the bad THR with its excruciating has me doubting my ability to pull myself through another THR!
Dear God, can I muster up enough inner strength to physically pull through this next surgery and restore myself to how I was before? I NEED A PEP TALK.

DawnDedee,
The thing I did to give me the most energy/strength and a faster recovery was to use the Whey protein drink mix body builders use. Whey has ALL the amino acids the body needs for muscle recovery. I has helped tremendously with my recovery and the hair I lost from the surgery is growing back in like crazy! I started using it a couple months before surgery, and continue to use it 4 months post op for better workouts. I drink it first thing in the morning and it gives me the energy to make it through the day, including my workout time.
Good luck!
Kathee
Come on Dawn you can do it, you are always so positive with others on this forum.

Thank you Kathee! I will buy some of that. I remember using that product in the past.
Dawn, you were put in a difficult situation on that day and you managed, but it was certainly not the plan to be having to stand for hours in the cold. I can only imagine how frightened and vulnerable you must have felt. It brings to mind two things, one when you have lived with excruiating pain for any length of time, you lose hope and confidence in yourself and the possibility of being whole again. Now you have been given this second chance and need to start to trust that all will go well this time, this time is different, it does not have to turn out like the second hip did. Second, you are asking God for help and He is listening and perhaps to ask others to pray for you in your healing, I have been so fortunate that many have said prayers and I credit the progress I have made thus far is a result of that. So take the time you need to regain your composure after this incident. It is easy to have the affects of PTSD from what you have been through in the past, but the past is behind you and you have been given another chance to recover and to be whole, prayers and hugs to you today, Susan
Well said Susan! I totally agree, weare stronger than we think. I can relate to the cold .... But has Susan said, God brought you through. Medical surgery for hips was made great strides in the last few years.
like Susan I too had many people praying for me, that alone uplifted my spirits... I do believe our attitude influences healing. We are here for you just as you have been here for so many.....
Prayers, positive thoughts and hugs to you!
Keep telling yourself there is light at the end of the tunnel, l felt exactly Like you and could kick myself for going up a ladder, but it is done so l have had to put it at the back of my mind, l just did not realise how long it takes to get better. I am seven months now and I have only just started to feel better, but l have lost a lot of muscle strength so l have bought a fitness bike, hoping that will help. Hope you will soon start to feel better, never give up.
Dawn,
You have come so far and your rainbow is just around the corner!
Everyone has their own "happy place", for some it is rewatching an old movie or tv show, reading a book with a cup of tea, listening to music or talking on the phone to a good friend...maybe treat yourself to a little Dawn time...it may only be for l5 minutes or one hour, but hopefully it will bring up your spirits.
As you can see by all the comments here, you have so many people that are genuine with their support and compassion for you, so keep their thoughts and prayers close to your heart.
The 26th is just around the corner, and soon you will be on the "other side" giving out advice to the newbies on this site!!!!
Love Patricia
Dawn it's partly your mind bringing you down. It's not a good way to go in to surgery as I know so well. Like I recommended to EDB I'd suggest you do your breathing meditation relaxation mindfulness stuff and do it religiously to get you in a better place. It can only get better can't it.... The load you'll shed after surgery will be euphoric and you have to think on this to raise your morale. Rest, do the breathing religiously. It is demoralising to be brought low by pain and be immobilised by it, but that has inured you in a way and made you tougher to cope with what lies ahead...and then.... Relief, release and revitalisation. You will do fine and you have faith in the surgeon. Leave it to them now. Detach a bit and do the breathing. Anxiety is the rust of life and depletes energy. Easy to say don't I know it, but it interferes with recovery so anything we do to reduce it.......

Thank you Sara. You speak so much truth.

Thank you Patricia. You know my happy place is spending time encouraging others on this site. All of you are so Wonderful and I like to pay it forward.
Raising my granddaughters leaves me with very little Dawn time. So, my hospital time will help take care of that.
Hugs

Hi Kathee, what exactly did you buy to help you muscles??? What is it called? And, what do you mean the hair you lost from the surgery?
Dear Dawn,
You were the first person who "stuck out" in this forum for me..... you are such a positive person!!! You can do this....it has to be better than what it is right now right???? I have to agree with you, that the cold does set in and we tighten our muscles up so uch when we are. Turn on your favorite music and dance away in your head!!! I'm not a very religious person, but sprititually i will say prayers

Thank you Susan. Prayer works.

Dawn, it's not good when the forum rock gets the hippy shakes! ;-) You're so close now, you can almost see the finish line. Just think how fantastic you'll feel when it's all over. You'll be able to look back at the mountain you struggled to climb and leap the one in front of you!
God's blessing and peace.
Jennifer, uk
Thanks Jennifer. Cannot wait to leap!
