8 weeks today! The right hip works like a charm!
There is the occasional 'squeaky' feeling when I sit down on too low a seat, but I eecognize those instantly now and then stretch out my leg and am fine!
Using crutches is now barely ever, long walks only like going to work and coming from work, and even then, I'm now using my right crutch. The operated side is now so well that I can actually start supporting the side that will be done end of August.
The only thing now standing between me and a successful holiday is volcano Raung in Indonesia. That sodding thing is spewing volcanic ash, wreaking havic on air traffic. And we're flying to Bali on Monday 😐
So here's me keeping fingers crossed that by then, it will settle down and we can just have a nice nice holiday! 😃
Hi am6, Oh how I love Indonesia and in particularly Bali, its such a pretty airport, twinkling lights, palm trees and open sided airport buildings. I have done wildlife rescur there since 2007, lovely friendly people, nice hotels etc.
If you are going from UK its a long flight so flight stockings would be a good idea, also get your GP to give you a letter about your THR and medication. I realise you may not be taking anything now but would pack some just in case you have aches and stiffness after the flight. Put most in your hold baggage and what you might need for the journey in your handbag.
Have a wonderful time, Dot xxx
hoi Arjen .. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you ...oh Mother Nature !!! heed Dot's advice regarding letter and meds ...
have a safe journey. enjoy your stay and oh, the food !!!! and fruit !!!!
I am so happy for you - take it easy big guy
knuffels or ou, your wife and daughter
renee
sorry ... should read : knuffels for you etc
Haha thanks Renee 😊
I have been in contact with the airline itself already as well and they immediately booked me (us even) into the most spaceous of seats, and as far meds go, I use simple paracetamol and ibuprofen, which will be in my hand luggage. Doctor gave me a note when leaving the hospital already, so tht should be fine as well. Now the wind just needs to turn around Bali so that the bloody volcano spews elsewhere.
A friend of ours lives in Jakarta, so worst case scenario, we book tickets in Kuala Lumpur to Jakarta and spend a few days with her until we can get to Bali. I'll be damned if I'm going to let a volcano stand in my way! Hah! 😁
And yes, soooo looking forward to the fruits and foods. Love indonesian (PROPER indonesian) food!
Hi Dot 😊
This is one of those moments that was a long time coming so I will most definitely make the most of it!
Like I said below to Renee as well, all precautions have been taken care of, so aside from that volcano webshould be sorted!
We're flying from Amsterdam by the way, but that shouldn't be that much diferent from the UK. And I have been given an aisle seat, with ample room for my stilts and the plane is large enough for me to do some walking. So fingers crossed and else I might update from Jakarta. Or wherever else we end up eventually. Just a fee more days of packing and sorting everything for the animals! 😉
Hope you get there as planned, would love to be recovering in Bali, took the kids there last year and have been many times before, love it.
safe travels 💌✈️🌞
Just on a side note ... I was born in Semarang, Java ..very.long time ago and a little girl when we left for Holland - I never went back but still have vivid memories - and yes, PROPER and authentic Indonesian food - like my oma used to cook ... slamat makan alvast
Ah cool! 😃
My mother in law lived around that area for some years as well as a child! She lived all over thanks to her dad's job by the way, which is why I'm married to an English woman who was born in Germany and grew up in Holland hahaha!
Denpasar airport is opened, we checked in yesterday, all that needs doing is pick up my son to have him watch the animals and sit the house, go to my mum and see her before we go, get the final packing done and be off!
By this time on Tuesday, we should be golden!
And thank you, I'm sure I'll enjoy every scrap of what gets put on my plate 😉
Hugs,
Arjan
Thanks Georgie!
The airport is open again, we're just about all ready for this packing wise and as for ourselves... We are ready to go!
One short metro and train trip and we're off tomorrow. Can't wait!! 😃
So happy for you ... will you keep in contact with us or take a break ?????
no pressure here ....
safe travels Arjen -
warm hug
Well the trip went just fine! Granted, being on a plane and sitting for close to 12 hours was a little trying, but getting up and stretching the legs a litle worked wonders.
Second flight was only 3 hours and went easy in comparison 😊
We were deiven from the airport to the hotel where we crashed a few hours abd then we went walkabout around the area. We ended up eating sushi.... We have a 10 year old with us 😁
After a wonky night, because of the flight and subsequent walking, my legs were punishing me for punishing them, we went to Bali zoo. We did elephant rides (on a bench) and had a lot of fun feeding all manner of animals (tigers!) there.
Back at the hotel, we had a lovely dinner, and from the driving to and from the zoo, we gathered plenty if things to go and do still! Today is a slow day. I need to get these legs calmed down, as I intend to finish this vacation walking, after that, it's just a little time before rhe operation again.
Having a blast so far! Off to the beach now, make it a tan-day today with some heavy reading!
Don't know when I'll do another update, might be a bit, so for now, bye!!!
Arjan 😃
good morning Arjen .... wow ... so you are there now and arrived safely .. survived the journey which is very encouraging for everyone who is planning to go on vacation by plane ... can't believe you already went on an elephant ride !!!
enjoy your beach day .. bask and let the sun warm and heal you ... can and will go in to the ocean???
thank you for taking the time to write - thinking of you and sunshine and palm trees and the sound of the ocean ....
big hug and enjoy ....
