8 weeks post left lateral thr . Saw consultant last week and he Is really pleased with progress and an go back to work in 4 weeks. My penguin waddle has gone now and walking without a stick with only a slight limp. No thanks to the terrible physio service - one 20 min visit at 3 weeks- I have had to google advanced exercises to strengthen my glutes - only seen progress with waddle on the last 3 weeks through self exercises and pure determination. I've started swimming now - breast stroke coming along nicely and no pain when doing it. I still take the odd cocodamol on a daily basis for muscle pain and because my right hip aches - mild arthritis - but all good now. Wish I hadn't left it so long before I had the surgery . It's been a difficult journey and not an enjoyable one but now I can see the full benefits. I have 4 weeks now to concentrate on strengthening my new hip up - as even tho I'm walking unaided my leg does tire easily.
Im glad to see you progressing well, to say you are only 8 weeks post op. I'm 5 months and still can't see any light at the end of the tunnel. My hip is pain free but because my foot is bad it limits me to what I can do. I suffer from arthritis and it feels as if it's going all through my body.
From the amount of fitness you can do I imagine you are a lot younger than me, I'm nearly 70.
Keep up the work and I wish you luck when you go back to work.
Thank you for your lovely comments. My surgeon said it was fine to do breastroke and has lifted all restrictions - he said I just have to be careful til my 12 week mark. I started off doing breastroke but not externally rotating my hip fully and then progressed to full breast stroke and it was fine - did not pull and no stiffness so I am happy as I think it has really strengthened my glutes. I can do all movements now with my hip apart from putting my socks on - don't know why this movement is taking so long but will get there.
I'm a nurse working in ae so on my feet a lot - really looking forward to going back so working hard over next 4 weeks to get full strength back in my leg.
I am 6 & 8 months out from my surgeries (only one hip replaced, two operations ) and the improvement is steady. You suddenly realise that you can do something that has notbeen possible, and it feels so good.
The joint actually feels like 'part of me' now, it's an important psychological thing.
I met someone who delayed their surgery and wished he hadn't - it is so much easier to recover if you don't leave it too long.
