9 weeks after hip replacement

Getting terrible pain in lower leg. Below knee. Am I walking too much?

Hi, can you tell us when your op was and how far you're walking etc ? ☺

Ok, sorry it was 9 weeks ago. Does the pain go when you ease up on the exercise ?

Hi Jena,

This can happen within the first 3 months when the muscles around your hip and thighs are still weak.  Try elevating your leg and apply ice packs.  This will help reduce inflamation and pain.  Make sure that you are keeping up with your daily strengthening exercises.  Until everything is tightened back up, you will run the risk of hurting yourself.  Talk to your physical therapist about the pain in the lower leg.  They will be able to show you what muscles you need to focus on to help prevent extra strain in that area.

Best wishes

If the pain is bad, then I'd suggest being out checked by your doctor. As others have said, it's probably just the muscles.- you haven't mentioned whether it had just started or whether this had been since the op? But there have been a few people on here who I recall saying that the way they have been walking prior to surgery has caused some problems; and also a couple who found that they had arthritis in the knee but didn't feel the pain until the hip passion had gone. The problem is that it could even be something in your back! Where you feel pain isn't always where the problem is. So for your own peace of mind, I'd suggest getting the doctor to check you out and confirm that it is nothing more than some muscle weakness that needs working on.

Hip pain, not hip passion! Dratted predictive keyboard!

Walking should be good. Are you still doing physio as well? Perhaps a chat with your doctor.
