I thought I had got back to normal , walking decent distances of 8-10 miles with the dogs in the Lake District. Fairly flat walks but obviously not completely flat surfaces. My hip is brilliant and appears to be working perfectly but my calf is excruciating - as if someone has got hold of the inside of it and tied it in a knot !!! Does anyone think this is linked to the hip/ lack of movement post op - or is this the next bit of me to have worn out ?
Hope the rest of you hippies are well and mobile ? X
Hi Malloo, good to hear from you and great that you are doing well despite your calf problems. Perhaps you could visit a Physio & have a massage? I've done this today for my thigh as the sartorius muscle (which is moved & stretched during surgery) was giving me some pain. I've had half hour of deep knuckle massage (ouch) & it feels wonderful. Maybe your calf is quite tight & needs releasing? X
I have had so many setbacks like this - up to about the 6 month mark. All much easier now, just keep on with gentle exercises, and try a good massage from a physio to relieve the muscle strains.
I forgot to say, my Physio recommended I buy a massage tool from A****n that feels like knuckles - it's called an index knobber! It's arrived today & it's great but what a funny name! X
I started getting shin splints post-op. Maybe think about wearing your TEDs on long walks, or at least all-day socks. I have found it helps lessen the pain considerably. I've also been looking at calf "sleeves", which are similar to TEDs, but don't cover the foot as well.
I forgot just how much I had missed your warm hugs - here's me going back to normal and I forgot about the envelop meant of support you all give so unconditionally. Hope you are ok too. It's very grey today in the lakes and not very inspiring. We've walked through the woods today, me and my old Labrador Billy, while Neil took the hooligans for a longer hike on a higher path over Loweswater. Thank goodness for muscle rub which although it is very smelly, gives a lot of relief.
Thanks, I do get the odd ache in the rear end, my rear-end seems to like letting me know it didn't like being operated on, but it is nothing like the pain I was in 12 months ago with the Osteoarthritis.
Would I do it again if the other joint played up - YES, just not that same surgeon again .
