Hi I have been reading lots of posts here to keep me sane. Anybody else feeling weepy and emotional. Im loving my new knee but feeling very tired all the time.
Hi June. I was crying almost every night before I took my pain pill. I realize that the pain pill isn't just for the actual knee pain but it is also for calming my emotions and nerves and it helps me get sleepy. This being said, I am almost out of pills, and I will see my surgeon for my 6 week check up this week. He is going to have to teach me a healthy, natural way to sleep and not cry without Norco. Otherwise I think I will the teacher from Breaking Bad.
Omg 9 weeks in still have pain Imgetting my right knee done in about a month stressing already
You're feeling "tired all the time" because "all of the energy produced by your body is being automatically directed to healing your knee". I asked the same question to my doc when I was sleeping 12 hours a day.
"Weepy"...totally normal. It's called Post-Operative Depression, a known consequence of joint replacement surgery that the docs never tell you about. There's a section in here...

Not unusual and should go away gradually. If you start feeling overwhelmed, talk to your primary care Dr. They have a laundry list of stuff that can help without any chance of addiction, etc.
I'm just about 15 weeks out and no pain pills. I get weepy almost everyday. Almost melancholy. I'm better with the knee though, forgetting sometimes that I have a new knee. Still stiff and boy it lets me know if I did to much. Hang in there, this is a tough recovery but hey, we will be better!
At 10 weeks and still tired.... emotional & weepy. Hang in there! I love this forum!
Totally normal for your time frame. Happened to me. Gets better. Still get tired, grant it i do more now,but not nearly as much as i used to. 27wks bilateral pkr. No pain pills after 6-8wks. (4wks were one at night). Only take 400mg ibuprofen occasionally (5 doses over last 7 days). It took 3 days for me to recover 2 days of work.
Doing the same thing! Yes I have been up and down I call it post surgery depression! So I am 6 weeks out still in a lot of pain but trying not to take pain pills only Tylenol! I think it is my endurance is short and limited in doing a lot of walking without pain since my right is the surgical knee! I play games on the phone, FB, read the Bible, and call friends on the phone that helps with the mood swings! Try coloring books I have some but concentration is bad now! Wish you luck and try setting in sun too!
Tiredness makes mood lower too! Maybe worth going to GP to get iron levels checked. Peopke can lose a lot of blood and this does not help either!.
Shelly try not to stress. I am nearly 5 weeks post TKR and whilst I wasn't to nervous over the actual operation I was terrified of the potential recovery process. I prepared for the worst and hoped for the best. I have had hardly any trouble am almost pain free fully mobile no sticks and sleeping all night with minimal pain meds. I know I am extremely fortunate and this forum has been a godsend but try keep positive
Thank you for your great suggestions. My family just look and see that I am managing but don't understand. Nice steak tonight and a good film..
