Hello Carol
i am about 8 weeks now and my bend is 80. I am working on improving it and i have found that my pedal exerciser helps me to keep the knee flexible. At the moment i am just working on the bending and straightening movement back and forth snd rthat is as much as i can take but it has helped. Also i use my leg lifter to pull my leg a little furter when bending my knee up on the bed. I pull my knee as far as i can then lloop my lifter around my foot and edge it a bit further and hold for 5 seconds. After a few goes i find i can achieve that by myself and practice that. Hope this helps!
I am 9 weeks today carol and am at 90 but it is is slow. Do you go on static bike at physio, I know this helped me overcome that last little bit of bend to get me a few more inches. I find the little pedal cycle useful too, Amazon £20. It is very hard to try and make a leg bend when you want it to. I try to walk every day because I feel that this loosens the leg. It is extremely tiring even now. I am sleeping a lot better now, taking co codamol last thing for the sedative effect. I hope you feel a little better, don't worry it will come xxxx. Just keep talking
thanks sally i am using my pedal exerciser and im really tring as much new things as poss im sure i will get there just frustrating at teh moment i have physio again tomorro so gonna have a chat and see what he says.
hi susan, and i have a static bike and use it every day. also i walk every day, even my physio knows this, i am also walking with no stick see if this helps, i have physio tomorro again and going to see what he says. just so frustrated at the moment as i feel like im getting nowere and i am doing everything i am asked to do.
Hello Carol
At 9 weeks, I only just made 80 degrees. I was still 80 degrees at 11 weeks. I only had physio once a week (South West - areas seem to vary), but I excercise twice daily. I've been away, so hadn't seen my physio for a fortnight - I also hadn't managed excercising as much as I liked (helping an elderly relative - sorting out care etc - not a holiday!) - just living as normally as I could - imagaine my shock when I measured 95 degrees yesterday! We are all different. Lucky for those who get to 90 within 6 weeks, manage to sleep, & stop taking meds - but we all heal at different rates & I am now convinced I will slowly, but surely get there. Sleeping is improving, & I can now manage to turn over left or right - I've dropped meds from 4 x a day at 10 weeks, to 3 times a day, & today I've decided to try twice a day - mid morning & evening. I thought I had a high pain level - I still think I do - but not a LONG TERM high pain level! Someone told me to do lunges on the bottom stair - which I do every time I go up them (I live in a 3 storey house - with the kitchen on the flipping top floor!) I didn't start that until 10 weeks - so maybe that slowly improved the bend. All I know is - keep on in there - you will reach that goal!
ah thanks veronica so pleased u r getting there, i have been doing lunges on bottom stairs also using a static bike, maybe it is just about time and i will get there lets hope.
