Something I wanted to ask . .whenp eople say they have a 90 degree bend, or 110 . . is that the maximum bend when pushing the knee, or the angle at which the knee rests naturally? if I sit on the edge of the bed and let my lower leg hang, then the angle is only about 75 - 80, but i can push it back to 90 without much pain. any more and it's agony . . .
Then your bend is 90Mine was checked yesterday and it was 105 and with assistance 110 so as 110 isnt causing pain the bend is 110. I was discharged from physio with instructions to continue with exercises
thanks for that info! Feeling pleased, as I thought I was still miles from a 90 bend. . .
How long ago was your surgery?
Four weeks and a day . . longest month of my life!
I am 3 weeks and 3 days, I am at 86° and though I was doing terrible. My doctor told me I should be at 90° at 2 weeks. I had severe swelling and had to wear a compression bandage and a leg immobilizer for a week. Then I twisted my knee on the ice. I was so frustrated at myself because I felt like I was doing bad..hearing that you are a couple days ahead of me and just reached 90° makes me feel better! I went dancing last night, well if you can call it dancing. I was scared that I would wake up in pain, but my knee feels great today!
Actually, I just figured it out..I am 4 weeks 2 days..surgery was January 8, I am assuming yours was around that time.
I've seen different therapists do it a little different. Mine has me put my foot flat on the table, put a long strap around my shin and pull till I break into a full sweat and start swearing. Others have you sit on a high table, grab the bad leg with the back of the good leg and pill as hard as you can. But its always under your own pressure.
My physio forces it until I scream at her to stop, and then she goes on for a few more seconds. Not sure I can take much more of it. . .
I had problems to begin with . .acute anaemia which sapped my desire to fight, enormous swelling of the lower leg for the first week . .but my specialist seems to think I should be tripping the light fantastic by now, and says I'm not doing at all well, and will be back in surgery unless I do better . One thing I do know. . whatever my knee ends up like, I am NOT going back into surgery!!!!.
!
Yes, January 9th! A black letter day!
that was the method used 10 years ago the 1st time I went through this.......the last 2 times I supply the pull. The 1st time I went through therapy I would lay on my stomach and the therapist grabbed my shin and tried to hit me in the back of the head with my heal. They don't use that anymore
Lorri......on a personal note......have you worked on a solution to your question earlie this week. If so did it give you the desired relief
I have! My mood has gotten better since! And I didn't have too many problems with the knew knee..lol
Yea...............good for you!!!!!!!!
I suggest you e a new physiotherapist before yours does some serious damage
Are you UK as registered physios have never done that.
By 'back in surgery' does he mean mobilization under anesthesia? I just had my knee mobilized on Friday and the difference is amazing. I'm not going to say it doesn't hurt, but I got it to 127 today under my own steam!!!! I had it forced to 105 before the surgeon decided to intervene, and that was so incredibly painful. If that's what he wants to do, I'd go for it.
I don't think it's doing any damage. It's just a whole lot more bearable if you're out cold when they do it.
Hi Martin I am 14 weeks post op and have 135 degrees. When I proudly showed it to the surgeon he said not to go any further as it could cause damage to the new knee. I stopped all meds 3 weeks ago and my exercises I was doing at home 1 week ago (surgeons advice)
I can walk well and do stairs and hills, just standing it gets stiff and goes very red, but after a couple of steps I can walk this off. I am told because of the internal damage and swelling, blood flow is restricted but when walking it gets pumped through by the walking action. I still get an occasional (every couple of days) sharp pain at any time, anywhere and for no apparrent reason. All these things are normal I am told. The surgeon said he doesn't want to see me for 3 years so he is evidently not bothered.
