A bit of a scare!

Hi everyone, well in the past I have had episodes of panic attacks - hyperventalating but have been great for probably 6/7 years.

Last thursday sat at my desk, I felt light-headed, my vision in my left eye was a bit odd/flickering like a nerve, and my head was pounding.  I was sent home from work.  I thought I had a migraine.  I got home sat in the chair and had tingling sensations in both hands in the fingertips.  I went to bed and felt better when I woke.

I went to my Doctor on Friday, I explained the symptoms and he was jibbering on about calcium, breathing blah blah blah, and said was I having a panic attack.  I said no, not that I knew.

He listened to my chest - that was clear.  He went to take my blood pressure, and it was non existent on his techy machine!  So he said I am going to have an ECG done.  Of course that sent my heartrate sky high!  BTW I have an irregular heartbeat anyway.  So when they linked me up it was a bit erratic, but the final result was normal (as can be!)

Now the Dr wants me to have a 24hour Holten monitor, which I am being fitted with tomorrow.

Has anyone else experience this - is it Anxiety?

Thanks

Yes it is. Had the same thing happen to me. Symptoms are so scary.

Hi I have had them feelings thought they were part of my depression I saw the doctor and was tested for blood pre sure which seems ok but I worry about everything

I get twitching in my eye too which never seems to be at any specific time . Also my eyes will ache for short periods of time and I do come over feeling very tired very quickly. I wear glasses and have them checked but nothing has showed up untoward. Also waiting for a 24 hour heart monitor as I have a heart murmur and both the heart scan and ECG showed nothing but have suffered with panic attacks and anxiety for the last 30 years. If it is anxiety, you are not alone.

Well today was the day I was getting the Holter monitor fitted, but they have no put off until next Tuesday....grrr, and I had prepared myself and now I have to wait.

But good thing is that I feel OK (at the moment!)

Reassuring to know that I am not mad and that others get the same symptoms.  Thanks everyone!

Will be really interested on how you get on with the monitor. I'm on a waiting list so it might be several weeks until one is available for me.

Hi,

I suffer from frequent migraines, and it does sound like you had an aura, which are quite similar to mine. The ones I get are called hemiplegic migraines and they are extremely nasty and very debilitating. It's sounds like you had a 'classic migraine' with an aura. Auras can last for a few moments or in my case hours!! Really doesn't sound like a hemiplegic one though. I also get panic attacks and anxiety but never experienced what you wrote with a panic attack!!

I'd see you gp again if I was you as migraines can get brushed off as anxiety, but then again anxiety can cause your body to react and have unique symptoms. I'd chase it up if I was you! X

Hi everyone, well on Tuesday I had the Holter Monitor, I had the day off with hubby, so we went to a Caravan show where I did a fair bit of walking.  I was slightly paranoid that I had the thing on, it felt like my heart was beating outside of my chest, but I think that was just mind over matter.

Anyway got home had dinner and about 9pm I felt like I couldn't breathe, my throat felt like it has swelled and I started hyperventalating.  This lasted 5mins, I think I was panicing about this monitor.  I wrote it down in the day diary (which you have to keep).  I explained to the nurse when I returned to have the monitor removed and she said that's fine, at least you wrote it down, so the Cardiologist will know when he is looking.

I had an op 10 years ago, and I was reaching my notes (as I have a copy) and it was noted I have Achalasia - no-one has ever told me about this, but I have been researching and it all seems to be piecing together!

So I have to wait for my results which should be next week, and I will go armed with my old notes and discuss with the GP.

Thanks everyone

Last Friday I received a message from my Doctors surgery that my Holter Monitor results were in and were marked "non-urgent".  To make an appointment with the Doctor within the next three weeks.

This morning I have been to the doctors, and the results found are:

I have an eptopic heartbeat, not a major concern, as many people who have these go undetected.

My heartrate over the 24 hour period went from 42bpm at 03:40am whilst asleep to 110bpm at 16:00 in the afternoon (which was when I was driving!!).  My normal heartrate was 73bpm.

The Cardiologist wrote that he believes that I have anxiety.

The Doctor asked do I get stressed, well, yes on occassions, but he thinks it may be playing in the back of my mind.

The Cardiologist suggested some Anti-depressant meds, but the doctor doesn't want to put me on those, nor do I want to go on them.

So I am to start taking Elemental Magnesium 400-800mg at night for four weeks to start, and see how I go.

It is a huge relief that I do not need to have other tests etc.

At least I now know what I am dealing with.

Any suggestions as to what Magnesium to take, tablets / powder??

Thanks everyone for the support :-)
