I went for hopefully my next to last set of hip injections ever. I have one more appointment scheduled for the last of September. At this appointment we scheduled my surgery. Yeah! I will get 2 brand new hips at noon on December 19th. I attend Joint class on November 28th. That's where I find out what to expect and have pre- and post explained to me. I have my prescription for lovenox injections afterwards. It's starting to sound real and there is a plan in place. I am an notorious planner so this also makes me feel better. Reading the posts here do lots towards decreasing my anxiety about this. I save the getting nervous for closer to the event 😊
Wow, you're very brave doing both at once. Have you researched this? I asked my surgeon about this but he wouldn't do it. He's very good- I'm having my 2nd after 3 months Aug 19th, but I don't think he's a risk taker. I'll look forward to following along your journey!
Take care,
Fiona
Please look at the resources listed at the top of the discussions page to find general information, timelines, advice for preparing, etc. and a link to Graham's website (also listed) which is brilliant and summarizes much of the good advice drawn from forum discussions.
I had a posterior LTHR in late Feb, recovering well and waiting for my second hip to be done late summer.
Good luck with your operation. I think you are brave to do both but if you have a good surgeon, aftercare and support for recovery, others have done very well.

That is great rita....nothing like having a set date and seems like their is finally a light at the end of the tunnel when you get that all set. I wish I had known about this site prior to my surgery. I also wasn't told about the joint classes at the hospital where I had mine done....so I was pretty much unadvised as what to expect. Not that it would have made much difference....lol...Not when you haven't been able to barely walk for a year....Now I am getting ready to get my second hip done and will schedule it on my next appointment. I will be thinking of you and wishing you well.....Barb
Good for you Rita, I'm aplanner too.
Hope my website is useful for you.
Best wishes
Graham
Hi Rita,
That is wonderful - at least you don't have to worry about that anymore -
Are you planning any vacations before your surgery?
Hopefully the injection will keep you painfree for a while -
big warm hug

I've been using the info on your website already. It's awesome. I've even discovered that the reachers are useful now for my reaching into the back of the the low cabinets. It was so much nicer than trying to get me and my bad hips back up out of the floor. The info here has helped me to be less scared and more excited about surgery.
Thanks. Unfortunately our vacation budget went into having our tub shower changed to a walk-in shower. I've wanted that for a while since while my elderly mom lived with me before her passing showering was one of the things that she always had to have assistance to do. Even then it was exhausting. I've been enjoying the shower ☺
We plan on traveling to the west coast to visit the Redwood forest and the Pacific Coast next fall. My husband suggested we postpone the plan from this year to the next so that I can hopefully walk around and ride better so I can enjoy it more.
I had asked if it would be possible or if it would be best to do at different times when we began discussing the possibility. My surgeon assures me that since my only health issue is arthritis that I should do well. My hips are equally bad so doing them at separate times would be more likely to delay progress with my recovery on the first due to the remaining hip'surgery pain and stiffness. My surgeon is at the same hospital that I work in the NICU so I have had several nurses and physical therapists that I know tell me he is great. I will definitely be sharing my journey ☺
Thank you Linda. I've checked out the resources that you mention and they are great. I will definitely be accessing them on a frequent basis. I'm so glad I found this forum. The info available and reading about others' journeys have given me the courage to head toward my light at the end of the tunnel ☺
Thanks Barbie. Fortunately my surgeon requires attendance at the joint class so they scheduled me for that at the same time they scheduled my pre-op. I sympathize on the walking. I do a little better for a few weeks after my injections but otherwise I limp along and about all I accomplish anymore is working and resting. Good luck with your second hip. I'll be thinking of you and hoping lots of pain-free strolling is in your future.
Thanks rita...oh certainly looking forward to some pain-free strolling....Wishing you well.....Barb
Raising my glass to your holiday plans - Redwoods Forest on my list although I am fortunate to have been to our Cdn Cathedral Forest and the fantastic Long Beach area and trails several times (likely my favourite place on this earth).
Glad you renovated the shower in timely fashion for you to benefit - one of the great pleasures in life.
Good luck with recovery.
