I just wondered when on earth I can have a bath? I am 4 weeks and love a long warm soak - not sure how I would get in or out but would love to know when you took the plunge?
How soon could you swim?
Cycle?
When did you ditch the raised loo seat? Would love a good walk but the rain doesn't seem to stop - will the sun ever shine again?
Incredibly I am still very stiff when getting out of bed is this normal? Leg doesn't always respond.
I survived my first day on my own with the littlies - sore but happy they helped me so much thankfully! What angels they are.
We are going out tomorrow - slightly terrified but going anyway! :0
I, too, crave a bath. However, the other hippies talked me out of it when I asked a week or so ago. I'm a month post-op.
From what they said, and other internet reading, you can be susceptible to bacterial infections. It also could involve breaking the 90-degree rule.
My biggest fear would be standing afterwards, as I do like bubbles in mine, which can make the tub a bit slippery. Combined with the heat from the water and the effects of the other "bubbly" I often have in the bath, it might make getting out a bit dangerous.
I've seen a lot of suggestions that waiting until the 8-week check-up (and asking) is the way to go.
I was told I could have a bath once the staples came out. I went both swimming and cycling after my 6 week check, and got rid of the loo seat then as well.....that was the strangest thing of all actually! It still seems a little strange now, at 13 weeks!
Thanks rocket - I will hold you to that sunshine in June!!
I am just getting to that itchy stage if wanting to do more than I an capable of.....wishing so much to be doing more. Just nearly crossed my legs too - not sure I am ever going to get the hang of this! I am a liability!!
How are you feeling this week? I loved your throne !! Looks mighty comfortable. I am sure you will be happy when Thursday has come and gone x
You know, the sun always shines when the children are still at school. As soon as they break up for summer, the clouds roll in.
I know what you mean about wanting to push it to do more - I was there once, but I have now lost all motivation. Hopefully I will find it again next week.
At the moment, I'm here in my throne .... lovely and comfy, contemplating my pre-admission appointment tomorrow - urine sample, ECG, blood & swabs I expect.
I think anyone's motivation would be at a standstill given the situation. Once it is over, and you are sure this time it is correct, you really will be ready to move on. You know all of the short cuts and will know what can be expected. I often hear people the second time round give up their aids much faster, and recover much more quickly. Obviously not the case for everyone as we are so different - but it might be for you.
Good luck for tomorrow - never a pleasant experience. Maybe an apple vodka might be in order - big hugs
Well done on Day 1! You may have itchy feet but generally I would advise you to get te children back to school first as looking after them without your husband will be more than enought o cope with! Ive got the grandchildren tomorrow as its an inset day but just one day and Im 11 weeks post op not 4 like you. Will be tinking of you.
Bath - for hip 1 it was about 12 weeks and Im doing the same for hip 2 but then Im just a scaredy cat or over cautious?
Swim - havent been yet but my physio said from about 6 weeks as long as Im careful but havent been yet.
Ditched the loo seat at about 9 weeks, just before Christmas.
The sun shone here this morning then disappeated as it started raining agin.
Yes you will be stiff getting out of bed as you are stuck in one position for most of the night. I still get a bit stiff after I get up especially if I have been lots the day befoe the main thing is that it wears off quickly once I start moving about. I should think you will be tired and quite sore looking after the children all day so try to rest as much as you can and get early nights if possible.
Where are you off to tomorrow you brave girl, hope its not too tiring for you.
I can't remember when I attempted my first bath but it was too soon and it wasn't pleasant. I think it was around 4/5 weeks. I was going through my cocky phase. Don't get me wrong, getting in and the actual bath was lovely it was what came after.
Oh, the indignity.
What followed was a mild panic of partner, a lot of bath towels, some wincing and squeaking and grunting as I was hauled to standing. There was no purchase, nothing to grab and the fear of slipping was enough to make me swear off a bath for....well, 4 months, cos I still haven't had one!!! Showers are safe and dignified.
Enough of embarrassing bath memories - here is a small tip. You said "leg doesn't always respond". It's normal, the nerves have been re-routed via the overfandangled condooberaters and refuse to respond to the request to move. You can bypass the system by tapping your foot on the floor a few times. This re-boots the system and you can move. Try it.
Be brave Rose but avoid stupid, walk in the rain but take a crutch/stick with you.
As always, your body will let you know when you have done too much - you can trust her and then take it easy for a day or so - doesn't have to be full-lenghth couch for a whole day , but slower and more gentle and kinder ...
Good job on the angels --- You raised them well and will continue to do that ..
You ARE the mommie ...
There is snow and sleet where I live - Code Red ...Officially being asked to not go out !!!!
Be careful tomorrow - Is it the first time you go out with children by your self?
Thanks everyone for your good wishes - I will be off for the preadmission session in the next few minutes, then taking Rocketwoman out for lunch at her favourite Thai restaurant.
