I have had PR for 9 weeks. I've tried everything people have suggested. It seems to be fading but I have a couple of questions. I've read about diaper rash creme, head and shoulders and tanning beds. All of these things Dry it out. Then it seems to contradict by saying to keep it moisturized. So I'm wondering does anyone have thoughts on not using moisturizers? Seems odd to dry it out then put more lotions on....
I see your point!! When it dried out for me was when it started getting itchy. So the drying out was good and bad.
Hi Tracy
Mine seems to want to dry out. I haven't been itchy up until the past week or so. I'm trying just using the coconut oil for now and will see what happens!
When my 7 yr old daughter had it for 3 months, Dec.-Feb., the only thing that brought her relief was A&D ointment. Not the one for diaper rashes, the skin ointment. We found it with the hydrocortsone type creams. We would wash her with head and shoulders, then slather her with A&D ointment. It seemed to give the perfect balance of dry it out and moisturize. Also, cold compresses really helped when it would get itchy.
I had it for 4 or 5 months and presribed a corito steroid cream to put on the patches but as my body was covered from shoulders to feet (including soles and palms) i just covered my body in the cream. Mine never got itchy expect on inner wrists when i did house work (anything which made me bend my wrists and exert pressure ) and the 'lesions' were never raised so when touched it felt like normal skin....expect when they started to dry out..then they got flaky ..i could pull off dry pieces of skin (never had any pain or discomfort). I was also told to use moisturisers but as u said...the 'lesions ' just turned red again so I stopped using shower gels or anything else (plain cool water showers) and only put moisturisers when i washed my hair (2x a week)
Direct extreme heat ( I live in the Middle East) made my skin prickle and felt on fire so i didnt try out the sunbeds as others have suggested.
Hello,
I found a combination of regular steroid cream (usually twice a day) and a few sessions lying in the sun with sunscreen on (perhaps a sunbed may be better but I chose the actual sun) helped clear my symptoms up in 4-5 weeks.
I also took an antihistamine daily to help with the itching, put camomile lotion on before bed and took cool showers. Perhaps I was lucky in that it didn't stick with me for long but it's an awful affliction.
