A friend of mine has a right eye which goes into a sort of mozaic pattern from time to time. How does this occur and is there anything that can be done about it?
Is it just one eye?
I am assuming you are talking about the vision rather than the eye itself iris/cornea)? I have trouble imagining your friend’s iris breaking into “a mosaic pattern from time to time.”
A precursor to a type of migraine can create a broken vibrating image, sometimes described as a rotating aureole. I personally wouldn’t describe it as mosaic so much as kaleidoscopic. But that could just be a language difference.
The migraine version show up in both eyes and originates from the head. It is often followed by a headache, sometimes quite extreme, and/or nausea and vomiting.
Any help?
I’m not sure that it is one eye. I first noticed it some months ago when I was rehearsing for a play. The person in question is a 20 year old young man who was affected by autism from a young age. During this rehearsal I described his eyes as “fizzing, buzzing and sparkling” for no apparent reason. And in a photograph taken recently his right eye looked as if it was a mosaic. I know that pixels on photos might have a bearing on such things but I couldn’t describe it in any other way.
So you’re saying his eyes look to you, the observer, as if they are fizzing. Never heard of anything close to that and I strongly suggest you take him pronto to an ophthalmologist.
It’s as if the eye goes psychedelic to be honest. If it is something that has arisen from autism I wouldn’t really want to interfere as it appears to be under control and as anxiety attacks were a problem with him when he was younger I wouldn’t want that to resurrect itself.
For some reason you’re still not making it clear if what HE SEES is psychedelic or what YOU see when you look into his eye is psychedelic. The difference is huge!
If he’s autistic and seeing a doctor would create anxiety attacks… and if he’s not bothered about it… well then…

I’ve lived with autistic kids but I’ve never seen an eye looking psychedelic when I look at it.
The iris is naturally multi-coloured, true.
But if you’re seeing a mosaic, fizzing, psychedelic eye, then that sounds more like your problem not his.
It is what I see. But I’ll leave it and see what happens.
