As a 70 year old woman I put of my hip replacement for over 1year mainly fear of the operation and also recovery .however I finally had to give in and have it done, and really 16dats later I can honestly say it's the best thing I've ever done.
When I was advised to have a spinal I really freaked out but turns out it was fine ,just made sure every one knew I was very nervous and did not want to be aware of anything happening around me and that was how it was ,work up in recovery felt great no sickness at all.
Home in 2days on crutches and so far I feel very good ,still taking some pain killers but already using 1crutch indoors and back doing some cooking and bits around house --can't quite believe it .
Doing excersises and have bought a small pedal machine to keep legs going No more hip pain !!
Hi Billiegirl...presume you've already looked on other hip threads on here...some of us are almost daily contributors...too much time on my hands !!
Great to hear how well your op went and it will get better and better as long as you are careful...don't do too much just 'cos you think you can...do all the exercises...loads in the internet as well as your own physio ones.
Best thing for me has been weekly hydrotherapy sessions...fantastic if you can access through your physio..
6 week assessment is a milestone and a steep upwards curve from then...
Lots of other helpful tips and advice on other threads on this forum......
Are you sleeping OK? Back sleeping seems to be the worst and good sleep is such a good aid to recovery but I can now sleep on my non op side with a body pillow...really comfy!
Chris
Hi Chris yes sleeping on back was something I dreaded I am surrounded by pillows which I find very hot but I do stay put but am looking forward to going back to side , I am a very fidgety sleeper normally,
haven't gone right through night yet but if awake try to read for a while then try again .
I understand what you mean about doing too much but it is my nature to be on the move and do take rest as well. Nice to hear from you

Don't be ashamed to use 2 crutches on uneven pavements, I'm using one inside but still use 2 when going out for walks. Do take notice of the twisting and bending advice for the first few weeks - you don't want to set yourself back but otherwise carry on and pick up your life again but in short bursts.
If you find time on your hands then find yourself a wee sedentary project, anything on the computer, handicrafts etc. Something you have achieved will make you feel better about yourself, anyway as your rehab advances the walking will take you longer and fill up more time.
Glad things are going so well.

I agree would not want to go out yet without 2 crutches,at least you are more visible to people around as well as feeling safer .
I do a lot of reading and also knitting mainly blanket baby ones and all sorts ,don't how I would manage
Without a hobby.
Body pillow seems a good idea will have to get one!
Bed now fingers crossed for good night !
