A year after my trimalleolar fracture.

I did not follow instructions.  I smoked all during the healing process and it makes a real difference.  Smoking halts your healing.  My ankle was trying dislocate from my foot, I walked when I was supposed too.  I had the hardware removed by a foot and ankle specialist and things were easy.  My previous got sued and dumped me as a professional and I'm glad now.  I had been in a wheelchair, which was slowly making me crazy.  Please learn from me.  See a specialist and get a fusion.  If you are not a smoker, you got it made.  Take care.  I am in a walking boot and so cool to be weightbearing and upright.

Hi,

Im sorry you had such a tough time. I'm a smoker too. They called a trauma surgeon to the hospital who told me point blank that if I didn't agree to quit right then, he would let the house surgeon operate because he doesn't waste his time. So I agreed. And the first two weeks were pretty easy...the first week I was in the hospital and the second week I was in too much pain to think about getting up to go smoke.  Now I'm into the third week and it's getting harder and harder! I really appreciate you writing this as a reminder of why I am suffering without a cigarette!

So thank you and I hope everything goes smoothly for you now!

Oh Mary, don't beat yourself up to much. Everyone does things right and wrong! I was a smoker. I quit and its been almost 7 months. My doc said on my first visit... "do you smoke?" Yes I replied.... he said.. "quit" and I did.   And I'm not looking back because I feel so much better! I can breath. My eating has changed for the better (for some odd reason?) and I have to say when he saw my ankle he was so pleased!

One day at a time, Mary.... smile

Congratulations on keeping off of the smoking Rose! It's really hard. I'm 3 weeks right now and also quit for all of my pregnancies. But I always go back! Hopefully not this time. Keep up the good work and what blessings that even your diet improved☀️

Hi Jennifer

Its so hard to quit. I know the struggle! Just keep at it. You are right, when you are just home from surgery its so much easier.  Just keep taking one day at a time.  Just keep thinking you don't want to report to your doctor that your smoking again! smile
