Is anyone else suffering with cramping and diarrhoea a year
after removal ? I’m not able to eat anything without getting the pain and diarhea.
It’s awful as I was improving but now it’s come back with a vengeance.
I’m only eating toast as the pain and rushing to the loo are really making
me feel ill. I’m turning into a nervous wreck. Haven’t been able to go out for months .
Please ask your Dr about cholestyramine it changed my life. I had this exact issue and it stopped it pretty much completely. Mine was so bad that sometimes i had not finished my meal before i needed to rush to the loo
yes its pretty prevalent. its from excess bile due to not having a gallbladder store bile for you anymore. ask your GI for a bile acid absorber like Questran(as mentioned by previous poster) or WELCHOL which is a newsr medication. either take this medication before bed or first thing kn the mornjng. you had to play with the dosing, try to find the smallest dose that will give you relief. you have to make dietary changes, low fat is the main goal. i have to avoid most dairy and fatty meals some fat is good but a balanced meal works. Aim for 5 small meals a day and dont eat two hours before bed. white rice, and oatmeal, plain chicken/broth are best if you are feeling bad.
IF prescription medication doesnt work or gives you side effects try Acacia fiber, and psyllium husk(start small on this) Acacia fiber is the gentler of the two and what I TAKE, the psyllium gives me some gas, but works for tons of people. I’ve done a ton of reading and trying different things. Diet and Acacia fiber has helped me enormously.
My urgent frequent bowel movements started 3 months after GB removal.
Fast forward to now and several Drs appointments later I was referred back to a Gastro consultant who within 5 mins told me I could have bile salt malabsorbtion ( google the symptoms) this will explian the condition. I started on questran lite last monday and have been so much better
Ive not worked since August and have had to put my life on hold as my D got so bad I daren’t go out !!
You must mention BAM to your dr as from my experience not many of them are aware of the condition.
I have also joined a forum on facebook called Bile Salt malabsorbtion which has helped, as you realise you are not alone.
All the best and if you need to ask me anything please do as know what your going through
