A Year of Constant Sciatica

After a year in constant pain, I feel like I'm in a battle between recovery and the need to live a normal life.

So back to the doctor I went today, after having been in agony for the last 3 weeks. My hope was that they wouldn't give me codeine was not realised. I've got to go back on a high dose of codeine for 2 weeks to see if the pain will dispate to let them look at other symptoms - such as the 'popping' knees and hips, the numbness down my left side etc

I'm a teacher, and I'm seriously having to think over the next year if my back doesn't improve having to leave the profession as it's not fair on the kids if I can't manage my pain properly to allow me to be in work. Luckily, my work are currently very understanding, but in my head I feel like if I'm having time off I'm letting my kids down.

Has anyone got any non-drug related ideas to ease the pain a bit?

I no your feelings I've had 13 operations on my back yet still got scatica. Have you ever been referred to see a back specialist or had any epuirdal injections or even a Mri to see what's happening. If u have already you can push for a 2nd apinion.

Hope you get some relief

I have been suffering with sciatica for the last 5+ years I haven't been sent for any tests or treatment I have only been told to lose weight which is hard to do when I have also got Osteoarthritis in my hips which causes me extreme pain and makes exercise very difficult. Has anyone got any suggestions on solutions please.

I have been suffering with Sciatica for 4 months and am unable to tolerate pain killers, I use a tens machine and hot and cold compress, it helps a little.

My doctor referred me to a pain clinic but the waiting time was 12 weeks so I paid to see someone privately, iwas given me 2 steriod injections and the pain has eased. The doctor also told me the pain was caused by Bursitis and was coming from my hip not my back. Do these doctors know anything about Sciatica? I am really angry, my own doctor is trained to give steriod injections. I could have been saved from acute pain and unnessesary expense months ago

I'm in the unenviable cross fire between Doctors and Solicitors. Having been with it for a year I'm bundled in the chronic pain pile and noone wants to do anything.

The issue is I have an issue on the sacroiliac joint too, so not sure whether to push investigation on this further in two weeks when I have to go back

Yes I would push forward or ask for a 2nd option definitely

Believe me I've tried and this is the furthest I've got

Codeine sickness is back to which is grand - especially when you are in front of a room of kids and have to get on with it rather than do what you really want to do is go and be sick.

The sciatica never dissipates it has been a year of full on agony from the sciatic and sacroiliac. I'm going back to my osteopath soon for another assessment as he seems to be the only one that can tell what is going on.

This year is not going to be fun as my workload has essentially trebbled.

Codine makes me sick too, my doctor gave me anti sickness tablets.

You have to go back to your doctor, no one should have to put up with pain.

There are Pain clinics your doctor can send you to.

Dr Reza Nikpour from the Optimum Chiropractic and Health Center has a solution for sciatic relief. I was a patient there with severe sciatic pain. Today, I am pain free and take no medication. You can be too. 703 658 0967
