Apologies if this post seems a bit trivial to those of you who are struggling with recovery or having some complications - but would really value your input. So I am 2 1/2 weeks post anterior repair op and on the whole am doing quite well - have overdone it a couple of times which left me sore and tired but now getting to understand what I can and can't do- as I used to be quite active prior to my op I'm now thinking about starting with slowly building up my walking but nothing more strenuous until after my 6 week check up- but have read some article that suggest that abdominal excercise should really be avoided even in the long term if not always- so what are the thoughts on slender-tone for abs - is it safe after surgery and should you still wait until after the 6 week check up ????
I wouldn't recommend any abdominal exercises until you've had your post op check and after talking to your consultant. Only he knows the full extent of your surgery, what type of sutures were used and how strong or weak your pelvic floor and abdominal muscles are.
I have a kegal 8 ultra for pelvic floor which has skin electrodes. Took it into hospital to show consultant , but was told not to be used before six weeks.
The slender tone works on the same principal with skin electrodes, so would agree with Matron and would take no risks before you have your post op check.
I am also 2 1/2 weeks post op and doing very well. Like yourself know my limitations. Beginning to miss the gym and running, so going to build up walking slowly.
All the best for your recovery.
Sorry but u should still be taking it easy. Such early days still. Had my anterior repair over 10 years ago and still holding up well because I had a very good surgeon and played by the rules.
Hopefull having my posterior wall repaired this year
Thanks matron as it's all external ánd you can have it on with a cuppa and an Easter egg I was tempted - but will wait I'll have had my check up
Thanks linda I also have a kegal 8 bought it a few years ago hoping it would help with the prolapse but clearly surgery was needed but would be great if that could help maintain now after surgery so will take it to show my consultant at my check up and see if he thinks I should use going forward- I was thinking of the slender tone as it's external and to help maintain or improve core muscles as I think even post recovery doing traditional ab excercise is not really recommended- like you missing my running and classes at the gym so really trying hard to pace myself - going to start doing some walking next week to slowly build back up - good luck with rest of your recovery
Thanks Kar trying very hard to not over do it - been very lucky in terms of pain and discomfort and a very supportive hubby- glad to hear that your repair still working well for you -provides more incentive to keep all the good advice in mind
Glad you are doing well. I am trying to be good and just pottering around house. Beginning to take short walks, but told this was fine and increasing very gradually.
Have been very lucky with minimal pain and discomfort.
I agree with matron you have had major surgery x
