Abdominal Trauma - 2 Years on Chronic Pain / Discomfort

Hi

Two years ago I fell 2.5 metres off my mountain bike whilst riding over a bridge and badly lacerated my left kidney. I landed on the edge of a ledge on my left side. However at the point of impact, the soft left side of my abdomen, I’ve been left with chronic pain and discomfort that has managed to avoid any diagnosis.

Likely ruptured / torn muscle or other soft tissue.

I’ve had 6 CT scans and multiple ultrasounds.

Ironically through physical examinations a surgeon incidentally located 4 hernias (3 x inguinal, 1 x umbilical, now fixed), however he could not locate any issues in my mid left abdomen, nor was he able to see in that area with the laparoscopic camera. None of these had any external lumps and were vaguely symptomatic; but ALL were MISSED on ALL scans.

The symptoms of my remaining chronic pain / discomfort fit mostly that of another suspected (trauma induced) hernia, however there’s no external lump. If I bring my left knee to my chest there’s an obvious internal lump. If I do this and engage my abdominal muscles these seem to “clamp” over the lump and this can be quite painful. This applies to cycling, climbing, gardening, pulling shoes and socks on / off.

If these activities are strenuous enough and occur for long enough, like climbing steep hills on a bike or trying to run too fast, I’ll be left with pain and discomfort and altered bowel movements for several days to a week.

I’ve also had a colonoscopy with no problems found.

I’ve attached a CT image that indicates an area in the top right corner of the picture (my left side of abdomen) which is very much where the lump and symptoms emanate from.

Hi Clayton19
Have you had your ribs xrayed you may have a cracked rib. When you raise your leg
and feel pain and a lump it may be the muscle around your ribs projecting outward…ask to be referred for an xray…

Thanks, quite likely a muscle below my left ribs, pushing inwards most likely. 6 CT scans so no cracked ribs identified (nor are they sore).
