Abnormal labs - possibly hypothyroidism?

I have had symptoms that I think point towards hypothyroidism for about 6 months now. These include extreme fatigue, crazy mood swings/irritability, and depression & anxiety over things that have never been an issue for me (to name a few). Thyroid issues specifically as well as autoimmune diseases are extremely prevalent in my family (both sisters, grandma, aunt, and multiple first cousins are affected by these). I had my doctor check my thyroid back in May, but only the TSH reflex T4 was checked and came back at 2.9 and I was told this was within the normal range. My symptoms continued so I had my thyroid checked again in November. My doctor still did not do a full thyroid lab panel, but checked my TSH again (this time at 1.45) and my T3 free (level was at 2.5).

I was very concerned with my family history of autoimmune diseases so my doctor also did some other blood tests. In those results, my triglycerides were extremely high, my vitamin D was low, and my WBC was slightly elevated. All other tests came back normal.

My question is - could these other irregular test results also be linked to hypothyroidism? I did some research and found that these results may be affected if the thyroid isn't working properly, but it's hard to find accurate, reliable information.

I know something is not right as I have not felt like myself for quite sometime. I'm hoping to get some insight into what next steps I should take. I have always trusted my doctor but am now concerned she may not be doing enough and I'm tired of feeling like crap all the time.

Elevated WBC, you may have an infection giving you those symptoms. Ask if bands were measure, or ask that they be measured. If elevated likely an infection, that the doctor can further evaluate and treat.

For your thyroid, find a good doctor who will do the full panel, and check antibodies, too. Do your family members have Hashimoto's?

Hope this helps.

Thank you for the reply! My older sister was just diagnosed with Hashimotos over the summer. My younger sister has Addison's disease.

Lauren,

If you have blood work to test for antibodies, such as Ab-TPO, these are present in Hashimoto's hypothyroidism, and are responsible for the self destruction of the thyroid gland, by the body. The presence in low concentrations now can also make you aware that you may eventually be hypothyroid at some point in your lifetime.

Hope this helps.
