Hello everyone, I'm a 21 year old guy with a long history of anxiety and OCD. for a month now I have been in poor health, as of the last week I've become preoccupied that I have some sort of cancer. my lympth glands have increased in numbers dramatically (quite large in neck and popped up in groin/armpit) and along with this I have awful migraines (probably from stressing about this) and fatigue. I'm absolutely convinced I'm in some end stage cancer and will die some time soon, I went to the doctor about this who prescribed an antibiotic citing a sinus infection as the reason. I can't focus on life anymore with this anxiety and have thought of committing suicide before I die of this disease I'm convinced I have. Please does anyone know what I should do about this? I take 50mg of Sertraline for anxiety but cannot cope with all this going on as of current. Thank you
Hi tom68183
We note from a recent post which you have made to our forum that you may be experiencing thoughts around self-harm. If we have misinterpreted your comments then we apologies for contacting you directly. But if you are having such thoughts then please note that you are not alone in this, and there are people out there that can help.
If you are having these suicidal thoughts then we strongly recommend you speak to someone who may be able to help. The Samaritans offer a safe space where you can talk openly about what you are going through. They can help you explore your options, understand your problems better, or just be there to listen.
Their contact details are on our patient information leaflet here: Dealing with Suicidal Thoughts: Where to get help, which also offers lots of other advice on how you can access the help you may need.
If you are having such thoughts then please do reach out to the team at the Samaritans (or the other people detailed in our leaflet) who will understand what you’re going through and will be able to help.
Kindest regards
Patient
Hi Tom,
Firstly i just want to say you are not alone and these thoughts that you are having are just that thoughts. Thoughts can lead to feelings and this is what make us as humans convince ourselves that there is something wrong…Home :: Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust
Please go on this sight and have a read of the health anxiety self help. GP only have limited knowledge of mental health which is why they always use pills as a way of help… I am not saying that pills dont work for people i myself have and still am taking sertraline but my whole outlook on life has changed since i did a lot of self help IT WORKS.
I wish you look and please if you are seriously considering taking your own life you must seek help either your A & E department or Samaritans.

Hello Tom
I am sorry to hear that you are in such a dark place and at such a young age. I, like many others, have been where you are now and it’s tough. I felt mentally and physically very very poorly. The Dr put me on anti depressants and more or less told me to go away😡 The tablets made me worse and I was very uncomfortable about going back to the Dr. so I realised that it was down to me to sort myself out. I told myself that my brain was playing tricks and games with me so I challenged my thoughts. I am much much better but I still have to work very hard at it.
You have got your whole life in front you. Join a running club, cycling club, chess club where you will meet people of your own age and will help you take your mind off dark thoughts.
One step at a time Tom.
I wish you well.
